So after SUNNY makes the change....

Who should pick up AC?

I still say that MIX should adjust...go softer, drop some of the currents and add more 70s and sprinkle a few 60s in like Sunny did and most ACs do. But, could the market still support another AC? Who could/should/will do it?

I wouldn't mind seeing La Ley go AC. Or maybe even WZTK.

No, Mix is enough.

I noticed La Ley dropped off a lot. But it still has an audience that needs serving. Surely the Arbitron ratings are wrong.

Also, after Sunny makes the change, who will pick up the all-Christmas format? I'd sure love to see another Raleigh station pick up next Christmas where Sunny will leave off (preferably a station that streams online so I can also catch it on the computer). My suggestions would be Mix and/or Y102 (although, like its Curtis sister stations, Y102.9 doesn't stream online). For a while the Triad had two all-Christmas stations over the holiday season (until, of course, Oldies 93 became 93.1 The Wolf). A similar approach in Raleigh (one all-Christmas format on the AC station, the other on the oldies station). Any ideas on whether anyone is considering picking up the Christmas music?

I do not think WRAL will pick up some of 93.9's music. After all WRAL means "We Repeat A Lot". What might be a good idea is to use one of Foxy's stations: 107 or 104. I never really understood why they needed two stations.
Just a thought, any comments???

Hey stuart i feel the same way why do they need to stations. I say switch 104.3 to A/C because it has a much stronger signal than 107.1 does. Or clear channel can flip one of there crappy stations except WKSL because they already had a/c and their actually pretty good.

my idea: there should only be one FOXY - 107.1. the 104.3 freq. should be turned into a Hot AC station and Mix should go softer and pick up the holiday music. Heck you could call it "WRAL FM's Christmas Music MIX"

FOXY is owned by Radio One, which operates primarily radio stations targeted at African-American audiences. Don't look for them to do anything like mainstream AC.

I remember reading in the News and Observer that Foxy 104 had trouble on the west end of the market when it was WCAS, and adding Foxy 107 helped that, also giving Foxy 107 a greater range in the east.

I never understood why Radio One is so dead set on JUST targeting African Americans. All of their stations are basically selling to the same demographic. I'm sure that if K97 is number 1 on someone's presets, Foxy(ies) and The Light aren't far down the dial. I'm young, dumb, and wet behind the ears, but isn't that bad business?

Ben do you think all African Americans listent o the same music? The three radio One stations in the Triangle each plays a different kind of music and thus appeal to a different demographic. According to your line of thought, there should be one station targeted to AAs and about 20 targeted to whites? Yeah, that would be smart...

Anyone else love their new commercials? "A lot of radio stations in the triangle have changed, leaving you high and dry"....or something like that.

That's harsh! :D

\Still not as bad as the Wal-Mart commercial with all the Salvation Army bell-ringers...

When did that commercial start airing? I haven't heard it, but I am curious as to what it's saying...

It came on not too long after the WRSN flip. It's been run heavily during Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and I've also noticed it on other channels carried by TWC.

"Aye bo, aint they all the same?" C'mon man...I'm from the country but don't put me in THAT group.

I think they've done well in splitting up the demographics within the race, but listen, I've met and spoken in depth with a few sales and on air folks from Radio1...they just target African Americans.

I know not EVERY black person listens to either Hip Hop, R&B, or Gospel. But from my humble and limited education, I've concluded that radio stations aren't worried about the small % that fall outside the "norm". They target the masses. Ah hell, I called them "black"...sorry that prooves your point didn't it. Hope you missed my white hood falling out of my bag.

I'm not really sure that I established a "line of thought", but I'm pretty sure that you're not on it.

I finally saw the commercial, and it sounds like Capitol is taking a jab at Clear Channel (everybody at CC-R except G105 changing formats in the last three months). Ten years ago, when 93.9 flipped from classic rock to Sunny, they targeted Mix 101.5's listeners, and at that point Mix started leaning toward G105. Now that Sunny is now Kiss, I wonder which direction Mix will go this time?

If you go to radiostationworld.com MIX 101.5 has said A/C long before sunny made the change. I Think there are more format changes in the iminent future.

Which stations? 1490/1090? 98.7 in G'boro? 102.5 after its supposed move to Hillsborough? I haven't heard anything else about format changes around here since Sunny became Kiss; has anyone heard anything new?
