Well, I can verify one thing...although I don't think many people are asking about me since I haven't been in the market that long...but Matt Chatham (that's me...heh heh) who doubles as afternoon producer for Total Traffic Network and Rock 103 weekender is leaving. Why in the hell am I talking about myself in third person? I haven't gotten the ax...at least that I know of. I put in my two weeks notice two weeks ago so that I can move back towards my hometown of Atlanta to be close to family and handle some family issues. Plus, I'm looking into some new career ventures. I've decided that it is time to hang up my radio shoes, which was a tough decision considering my career has only spanned 11 years including college radio.
I've had bad feelings about things for a while now in the business in general, and with many opportunities to make some serious bank staring me in the face back in Georgia, I figured it was time. Sure, I may try and land a weekend shift here and there, but for me, it is time. I have enjoyed a fun, yet short radio career.
Granted, I don't know the specifics at Thousand Oaks from today...I left the building after my shift ended at 10am, so I don't have any answers for the curious.
What I would like to say is that despite it having only been technically a part-time job for me, the past 11 months at Clear Channel-Memphis have been the highlight of my career. For many years, I wanted to be on Rock 103, and getting to finally work there was a pure joy. Total Traffic Network has been a great experience as well.
It's truly sad what is happening in the business right now, but we all know the risks. Tim Spencer, Luca, Melody Meadows and Jeff Rademaker have been tremendous supervisors to work for, as has Steve Versnick. I think the world of these folks and consider it a privelidge to have been able to work for them.
Sorry for the rant, but since I was closing in on my final day at Thousand Oaks on Monday, I just wanted to share in light of the current rumors.
I will always love radio, but life goes on.
Hotty Toddy! Go Rebels!
