This has got to be one of the saddest days of the saddest weeks in Memphis radio. :'(

I had not heard about Jarjar (and there's nothing on his myspace site yet) but I spoke to Bev, and she's doing good, all things considered.... but she's a classy, strong lady and this too shall pass - it just may feel like a kidney stone as it does.

And believe it or not, Matt, I asked Bev if you were in the carnage and told her about your post earlier this week -- we were pulling for ya!!! ;D

Yeah, Vogad, we think that vein on Spencer's head bulges now, I can just see him leading into some Big and Rich or Kellie Pickler.... not enough duct tape in the world to keep his brains from leaking out the cracks...

Thanks for the kind words! One of the crazy things about the business today...my longest radio gigs have lasted 3 years. I've fallen victim to budget cuts/creative changes here and there. Those jobs were hard enough to deal with losing, but I can't even imagine what Bev and Steve Conley are feeling. If they choose to stay in this business, they will have NO problem landing gigs, but it's tough to swallow nonetheless when you are let go.

As I said before though, I had already put in notice and Monday is/was scheduled to be my last day anyway.

I hate this though for everyone, because in my opinion, Clear Channel Memphis is a great place to work. Here I was a lowly part-timer, and everyone there went out of their way to make me feel welcome when I came on board.

Would I go back there if asked? You betcha....if the opportunity was the right one.

We shall see. I do have a background in real estate, so maybe I should just move down to the first floor to the CB Richard Ellis office. ;D

Well, understand that I don't have any insider knowledge. If I did, I couldn't post and wouldn't because I respect my superiors way too much. So, this is just a little discernment....I don't think it's a precursor to a format flip. I just think that what someone said earlier is right, that whatever the Powers That Be consider "fat" needed to be cut so each station would look lean to potential buyers. I love Bev dearly and really don't know how much things will suck on Monday yet.

FYI, I've been moved over to WREC and won't be doing Rock 103 anymore. I hope to be in there after 9 a time or two a week, but it's truthfully up to me and I dunno how much I'd want to stick around the office now that I'm back on split shift.

I'm just a listener as well and I agree that this has been a terrible week in Memphis radio. At one time I wanted to get into radio but the opportunity never opened up, and at times like this I think it's probably just as well. :-\

Bev ask me to act as her spokesperson to let everyone know how much she appreciates your thoughts... here's her response:

Hey y’all…

Well, by now you’ve probably heard… and if not, then I wanted to let you know:

As of Friday, 11/3/06, Clear Channel/Rock103 let me go, and Friday was my last day on air.

CC is “restructuring”…and eliminating jobs everywhere. I was not the only one to be fired yesterday – two other very talented members of the Rock 103 airstaff were also let go: Chris Jarman and Wes Yahola. Other employees from the office team and airstaff from other stations were also cut.

Right now, I’m still feeling a bit shell-shocked; but Mama always said “This too shall pass” …and Mama’s always right. So my plan is to regroup a bit, and see what my options are – and whether that means in radio or in some other field remains to be seen. I’ve had an extraordinary time in my twenty years at Rock 103; so no regrets but that it’s over.

I know I talked with many of you Friday, and I thank you for the outpouring of support. I only ask two things: 1) that you keep me in mind if you hear of an opportunity that might suit me, and 2) don’t let me stand on American Way with a sign “Will work for food” - keep those magic markers away from me!

I miss Bev, and the show won't be the same. After all this time, you'd think they'd have cut someone newer like Dennis or Lutza. (sp?) .
