Buffalo So long, Slick

I seriously doubt that any advertiser threatened to boycott Cumulus because some Buffalo night disc jockey posted a dumb cartoon on Facebook...

It doesn't matter if anyone complained. If the company has a policy, and the policy was laid out in advance (in their employee handbook), and you violated company policy, they have the right to fire you.

I agree with that. He made a foolish decision to post the cartoon to begin with. It's also likely that he doesn't generate much revenue for Cumulus. If he did, he might still be employed...

I loved Slick Tom! This a tragedy. I guess I'll have to write in to the station. It probably won't do any good though. I don't care what his politics were, he's a Buffalo hero!

Whatever happened to verbal warning first, written warning second, then disciplinary action? Slick Tom is a great talent and he should be cut some slack after so many faithful years as a mighty 97 Rock jock!

Keep in mind that not so long ago 97 blew up an entire morning show that generated revenue.

It obviously wasn't enough to matter. They ended up moving the guys from the Edge to replace them. Revenue may be down at the cluster, but it probably is not related to the people who got fired.

Jettisoning a 7--Midnight jock on a Buffalo Classic Rock station won't impact much of anything in Cumulus Land...

Anbd the former Edge guys are doing pretty good. Thing about revenue, it's all good until it drops or dries up, whether it's because of a comment about race and toast, or a social media post about a former president and a foreign tyrant, or the ratings fall off the table. When sponsors walk, or threaten to walk, things get real, real fast. Cumulus probably paid the night guy's nightly salary with three spots in the first hour (even if it was a discounted rate) but when those spots get canceled...

Did advertisers threaten Cumulus if they didn't fire the previous morning show or this evening host? I doubt it was the deciding factor. In both cases, the people who got fired gave the company a valid reason. Those working in Radio should check their ego at the door. Almost everyone is expendable...
