So what has become of oldies 700 in dothan??

BTW Simian, I tried the links on ultimateoldies.com and they were useless. The stream asked for a name and password and I tried to download two of the programs and neither played once the very slow download was complete.

Oldies 700...who's who & what's what

Damn...this crap has gotten WAY beyond nauseating, so let me try to help with some clarification.

Symian (the new owner of the 700 spot on the AM dial in Dothan) is...Mr. Jack Gale (and I don't "mister" very many people in radio). Jack has been in or on the radio, since before I was born (and that wasn't yesterday...it was 18,886 yesterdays ago, to be precise).

No...I do not work for Jack Gale, I have never worked for (or with) Jack Gale...in fact, I've never even met Jack Gale. Still, I know who Jack Gale is. More importantly, I know what Jack Gale has done.

See www.jackgaleradio.com for more info.

Now, here's how I see it. No, this station is not the best facility in the market, nor has anyone ever been able to do anything with it. It will be one hell of an uphill climb for Jack, and...he might not make it. But, it's his money (money he made from being successful in radio) and his boat to sail. I have, on more than one occassion, seen true passion defy so-called logic, just as I have seen those who freely admitted they didn't know it all, run circles around those who insisted they did.

Me? Clearly, I'm pullin' for Jack. What I don't understand is why isn't EVERYONE (who considers themselves a professional broadcaster) else pulling for Jack...including those in Dothan? If he's able to make this wheel spin, doesn't that pretty much balance and align every other wheel in the circular city?

Give 'em hell, Jack!

Weathering along,
Dr. M.C. Scyesz, AmD

Dang JJ....I did wish them luck in MY post.
I think most of the negative posts are from outside the market.
Your remark on passion & know it alls is inspiring.
Maybe they will make it.

Simian, Jack, whatever your name is, I noticed the stream is finally up and running. Listened on 1-2-07 for about a 45 minutes before heading into work. You are trying, can't believe I heard Cyndi Grecco 'Making All Our Dreams' followed a few minutes later by the theme from Batman (Markettes?). Of course I can tell its all quite automated because the transitions coming off of songs which fade at the end sounds quite ragged and abrupt. Aside from that its allgood.

I don't work for Simian, Jack Gale, or whoever. I do know Simian is NOT Jack Gale.
I heard the stream and it sounds great.
Great music.
If that's what they'tre going to play...they could make it all the way.

Simian on this board is Jack. Simian on Oldies 700 is the name of their automation system.

Naturally figured the Simian reference was from the automation of the same name, which is what JA had to start with, surely they got it as part of the deal.

Really neat mix, the segue rate still needs to be turned down just a notch. But the selections are as eclectic as one could hope for out of the genre. And not every selection is from the rock/pop/soul genres, which is an added bonus.

This however will not be a station for the neophyte oldies fan, I really hope Jack makes it, at the very least he will give everyone an education on what can and should be done with the genre. My god Dothan may be the home to the best oldies station in America?!?

As I recall back in the 90s,this was a Bishop Willis station,no relation. The station has had a hard life.Jack Gale would be the best thing,so far.

For the record, I am not Jack Gale. BTW cc917, what stream are you listening to? The "official" Oldies 700 preview is heard only on oldies700.net You can hear Jack's internet show on ultimateoldies.com (if you're having trouble with that site, contact them.)

Hubcap Classics? Man, it's been a long time since I heard that name. I didn't think anybody remembered it.

The Simian

Listening to the ultimateoldies stream. The link for the stream at oldies700.net is still inoperable. But the other stream is well worth listening to.

The oldies700.net stream is up and working fine. You must have the Windows Media Player Orban plug-in as stated on the homepage to hear the stream or you can use Winamp player. Mac users should be able to hear the stream on the Quicktime player (I have not tested it.) There are links for everything on the homepage as well. Oldies700 and Ultimateoldies are not related in any way.

And doesn't that Orban/Coding Technologies plug-in sound GREAT with AAC+.
Maybe micro$oft will build it into the next release of media player.

Understand another big name air personality has signed on at Oldies700.
Kevin Larkin, Baltimore and Phoenix radio vet has aralrfeady arrived on the scene.
They are getting ready for the big push.
Watch out Dothan!!.

Alot of people seem to be really pusing for this station. WHile I wish 'em the best. It's an uphill battle....

Something tells me some of these psoters and friends of the stations or actual employees.

Latest rumpr is that OLDIES700 will sign on with a MILLION DOLLAR giveaway contest.
Where's that money coming from?
March 1 should prove interesting.

>Where's that money coming from?<

No where probably. Maybe just another "insured promotion".
But hey, if they have a 1000 kilobucks to give away, more power to them!

I understand from a very close source that Oldies700 already has several heavyweight sponsors signed.
I don't think they actually will sign on the air until March ort April.
Who's the big name airguy they have coming in from Philly?

That's funny. I don't care who you are. And a million dollar giveaway on a station worth
less than 1/10 of that. Wow. I'm waitin' for the billboards to go up.
