In this particular case, Gerry kept a lot of people on the payroll over the last two decades.
No doubt. This situation is like everything else, nothing lasts forever (at least here on Earth.)
Management and mandates weren't always logical, easy or fair with Gerry. Two decades is
a lifetime and a remarkable run. But, Gerry and his great team know when it's time to close
the chapter and maybe even the book. I think the timing is as good as it could have possibly been. AND, I doubt any other GM at any station in Nashville would say that it would make
sense to have basically passed on this morning team, regardless of what might have evolved.
Regardless of the stresses. Regardless of the fact that no one really knows what even this afternoon will bring.
Nothing like taking a big risk with a well thought out, educated guess...
I dunno Big A, again, I see the "logic" of playing it safe. I just don't always live by it or buy it.
A maverick at heart, I have taken those shots with strong personalities, and while the climb
wasn't always easy, carefree and/or painless...the mark was left, the benchmarks set and
the results were much more dramatic than playing the middles cards.
Then again, we call ALL name fiasco's and implosions of gigantic magnitude. Interestingly enough,
you still see a lot of personalities names from by-gone decades brought up on here as if they just left. I think a strong personality driven business is pretty much a must to catch all the flies.
But, it's not for the weak of heart. I will leave it at that.
