So Where Did the WYSP Call Letters GO?

As noted previously, they got snapped up quickly by a non-com religious station in Scranton. From the FCC database. I know this is old news, but some investigation shows that the new proprietors of the call letters is related to "Family Life" radio, which is a large Christian broadcaster in New York, with has transmitters all over central and western NY and northern PA.

Unless there is some religious acronym that would fit those letters, the only real value in them is in the Philadelphia market, and mostly for a rock station.

It's just a guess but since CBS didn't make an effort to keep them for itself, it doesn't see that much value in them now.

On the other hand, while they may not mean much to an out-of-town religious station as call letters, that broadcaster may just be cheaply speculating that some day somebody with a radio station in the Philly market may be willing to pay a significant amount to move them back to Philly where they would be recognized and easily remembered by potential listeners.

Although with PPM measurement call letters aren't as valuable as they once were in making sure listeners wrote down the right station in the diary. And now the nickname and address to get listeners to the frequency really matters.

Put 'em on a Family Radio station...
When Ye Shall Perish

According to the Inquirer 'Sports Calendar' Saturday page C10, the Eagles at Rams game Sunday will be on "WYSP-FM 95.7"!
Moving on, will the FM still broadcast the Eagles games to match the TV time and the AM to match the real time for stadium listeners?

How funny (sad?) is it that CBS sees more value in the WNEW and even the WBCN call letters, but for WYSP, not so much.

CBS didn't care about WCAU either when they sold channel 10. How far back does the WBCN call letters from Boston or even the WXRK call letters from NYC go. WBCN is parked and WXRK was parked.

WYSP had more haritage as far as calls go.
I mentioned even WYSP to someone i know has no ideaabout really call letters and that and doesn't even listen to ock music (unless its on a top40), and she had heard of it before.
Couldn't tel me what it was or anything like this... She's 22.

We had this discussion a few weeks back, when I was corrected.

WXRK is WXRK now (no pun intended), but there was a time (during the Free-FM period) when 92.3 in New York was WFNY and 92.3 in Cleveland was WXRK.

CBS radio management at the corporate level is completely different from what it was during the "Free" fiasco. I agree they should have parked the WYSP calls, though.

And WNEW is down in Florida. How old are the WNEW call letters? I guess they go back to AM even before FM. Was WNEW Metromedia, WMMR's sister station?
