So which will go...KTBZ or KHMX?

Ok, hold on tight biddies. How about this scenerio...Cumulus is supposed to be acquisitional so: they buy KLOL and reinstate the old regime like they tried to do with a rimshot on 95.7/103.7 and bring back the real rock station, then they buy KHMX and take it out (KRBE competition), and move the Jack format to that stick (two birds, one stone) ESPN FM gets moved to the stronger 103.7 signal and that leaves KFNC to be an experimental venue for what Houston wants next but can't always hear clearly. This is the way I would do it if I were invited to these meetings, which I am not
I wish you were

Hard to say which one will go. Oh, Easy Money...the only reason you're a target here is because many of us also professed our loyalty as well and was shown the door. Some of us were even profiled in trade magazines for longevity only to bring it to the attention of corporate and then shown the door (20 years? Hey, get him off the payroll!). Years ago on another board there was a guy who said "I don't know why you guys hate Jacor so much! I LOVE Jacor! They care about their people! I don't see what the problem is! I'm very happy here!". He had given his real name and station in his comments. Two days later the station went "Prophet" and the staff was shown the door. After that posters kept going, "Rick...oh Rick! Where are you Rick? Hmmmm...Rick's mighty mighty quiet." It went on for two days until a moderator said "enough." We never heard from the guy again on the board. So Easy, please continue to be loyal and such, but don't say it out loud. Because now everyone will be watching what happens and wait to see if you survived the cuts after professing your loyalty. If you get the cut, we won't be happy. We'll just have our sentiments confirmed that we don't mean jack in our business anymore no matter how hard we work and love our jobs.

Jacor was better than CC in only one respect, Randy Michaels wanted it to be fun; as for the Rick thing, MOST Jacor stations even with Prophet kept some staff....NOT everyone was canned like CC did them.....when CC took over, the stufiness went in and the fun went out...and the a**holes took control...and it got more crapier and sh**ier every day.
The slugs inside Jacor (there were a few) slowly crept up the chain in CC....you ever notice how crap floats to the top in every instance??

I agree with CW. Easy Money, you're just a fun target now because it's probably a rare thing to profess loyalty to an outfit like CC. I never worked for them, but ironically socialize with the Mays family every now and then, but I am not a fan of what they did to the industry. EM, as many have posted in this and other threads, keep your resume up to date because your loyalty means squat to the current and future owners of CC. As soon as you are making too much money or showing to have any influence among your CC peers you're gone. And I, like CW, wish you well. The one thing I have noticed over the years is that the truly loyal people, like you, tend to be the best and if I had a station you would be high on my list just because your loyalty spells hard work IMHO. But the one most consistent thing over the past 10 years in the media business is the best tend to get displaced by the lesser qualified because all these big media corps want is cost efficient programmable robots that are not and will never be smarter than uppper management.

wasn't this back when Cruze was PD at the Buzz?? once the Planet when on the air, the Buzz was told to change to compete. :p

Here's the scenerio for EM. I have a hunch where he works. Try this one on: your boss is great but your station will be soon divested. The company that picks your station up doesn't need (most) management so he will stay with Clear Channel and end up somewhere on some sunny beach in Florida. You will take your contacts and your list and go to the new company. Why not...they swore to you that they won't change a thing! Ouch..here's a new boss who has never worked in a top 10 market and they will wine and dine you, learn all about your clients that you have worked so hard to build relationships with during your 5 glorious years at CC...then... because of the color of your tie, the length of your skirt..you will be replaced by some old drinking buddie from Tulsa.. and then you will be scratching your head.. Let me give you some advice. You are an employee of CC. You have the option to STAY at CC. I would talk to your boss right now about finding you another place at one of the other stations. This conversation may be disappointing because they don't have a place for you; but have an opening out of market. I am not Chicken Little. I am still alive after living through SEVEN take overs/ sell offs/ divestures and yes, stayed with a station to be let go three months later with the new company. My pride told me to stay with the station. My pride didn't consult the bank account. There is no such thing as Easy Money.

After reading these posts, I had this thought ... Advertisers must not be interested in me, a 30-something with good income to spend that prefers new music from Radiohead, Jack Johnson, Bruce Sprinsteen, Spoon, etc. Just blows my mind.

Eric, read my posts. You're perhaps the best radio demo to aim at with PPMs now in place. You're exactly why they are going to dump KHMX and keep The Buzz. Male demos (particularly those in the meat of the 18-49 demo) are participating with the PPMs. Women in the same demo are not participating as much just like when some of the women filled out the diaries and none of the men did.

I just looked at KTBZ's most played songs on Yes.com -- I was wrong, they do play the new Jack Johnson, Radiohead, and even Spoon. I guess I should tune in every now and then (for the past two years, I've only listened to music on my iPod and satellite). Still, the rest of the playlist assumes that I only want guitar-heavy rock music, including a lot of it from the 90's. What I want, and most people I know, is a station that plays the artists I mentioned along with "alternative" music (and I'm not talking KTRU, very left-of-center alternative, either).

Ten years ago, KTBZ would mix alt/rock with alt/pop (ex: Barenaked Ladies), electronic (ex: New Order), adult-leaning alternative (ex: Cowboy Junkies, Mazzy Star). You don't get that variety anymore, which is why I tuned out.

good points. that is exactly why I gave up on the Buzz and Houston radio. it is still stuck in a time warp. all hit stations with "best of the 80s and 90s" formats. I'm 41 and want variety and new music.
the last local radio I listened to with any frequency was David Sadof when he was on 97.5. I have had XM for almost 4 years now. I only catch the local when I'm in the car and my receiver is at my desk at work or home.

CC will trade the station that they can get the best deal.
Think about it. You're making a trade, which is a better scenario than selling because of tax purposes, you know you have to get rid of a station. So if you unload The Buzz, you can get a better deal in another market for a station they can pair up for a stronger cluster else where.
If CC gets the station or stations they want in another market, The Buzz will be traded off. If not, it's Mix. It's really that simple.
