So WHO was on WWKX?

All this talk about Coyote got me to thinking and for the life of me I can't remember who was on the air at Kx-104...I seem to remember Coyote moving to afternoons for a bit and I think Bobby Cook did mornings...but other than that....

I did weekends the final months of KX starting February '87 (a few weeks in Gallatin...then at 31st & West End)...
station became WFGX (Classic Hits version of "The Fox") in August of 87. KX airstaff at the time included Bobby Cook...
Rob Johnson & Mary Lynn White...Tom Peace...Charlie Walker...Jackson Daniels...BJ Harris...and Michael St John PD.
I had a great time with adult CHR...tightly formatted...well programmed. And the studios on West End were fabulous.
Just FYI...I've done time at these frequencies...from 1975 in this order:
107.3/900...1130...92.1/1300...96.3...105.9/1510...104.5...100.1...97.9

Darryl Douglas(1st morning drive man), Coyote, Jeff Baker, Michael St. John, Jon 'Rock n Roll' Anthony, Steve Denton(The Unknown DiscJocky), B.J. Harris, The Amazing Steven Kelly, Lee Masters, Beau Richards, Andy (Drew) Pearson, Jim Driver, Tony 'Magic' Jackson, Rocky Knight, Dale Mitchell(Chris Thomas), Katie Haas, Gene Hamilton, Brian Sargent..........

These folks were there from the change of WHIN-FM to KX-104 thru mid '80's........

The 1130 wouldn't happen to be the 'Pride of Blythe St. studios' in Gallatin would it?

31st and West End? Which corner? What is there now? I know that the Walgreen's there is where the Jacksonian apartments used to be. Remember "save Jack" (and it had nothing to do with any radio stations)? 8) ;D :D

absolutely correct...filled with cigarette smoke and asbestos tiles

Yep, Sarge did mornings for a while and Coyote went to afternoons. Not sure if "Boomer" was mentioned. What about Bumper, I can't remember if he was ever at KX. CR, what was the last non country song you played, wasn't it at 104-5 The Core? I bet you will remember!

actually I don't know what the last non-country song was: I didn't know it would be my last!
(I came back from an approved vacation in August of 1990...and found I was no longer employed).
this was well before "The Core"...and made a move to 98 possible...so it worked out nicely.

actually...just realized I did a few weekends at WRLT between 104.5 and 98...

Mr. R...........

when were you at 1130 WAMG in Cinnina..........sorry Freudian slip is showing....Anyway, when was it?

absolutely correct...filled with cigarette smoke and asbestos tiles just like 'Roadhog" says.."we always get good sound in here , Mr. Kennedy"..I did time there for about nine months in 1988..did mornings with my bud Tim Cathcart when it was "Supergold 1130"...I think the walls had been painted..but you could still smell the smoke..same asbestos tiles too..lol

December of 1975 thru March of 1977. was also doing weekends 92Q from October 1976 'til I left WAMG.
biggest improvements while I was there:
a. moving from non-metallic sensing tape carts (three-stack on one pot)
b. hot water

every Friday there was a remote at Gallatin Home Furniture...playing 45's from the mail truck remote vehicle
parked at an angle in from of the store. not good. one live :60 every quarter hour...from the newspaper copy that NEVER changed. ever. oh yeah...remote was 8a-12n - and 1p-5pm. no extra pay. lots of awkward looks.

Was this under the tenure of "BIG L" Lee Raines?? The "MAIL" truck remote vehicle was finally retired..as in no longer used..not new tires put on it..and wound up sitting at a house out in the country not too far from where i live..sat there rusting for many years until the tornado five years ago picked it up and spun it off never to be seen again..Lat time I saw the '63 Dodge WHIN van was not long after Ron and Lon bought the AM/FM..It passed me on I 65 headed toward Nashville at a speed I would not approach in a 63 Dodge van with 13 inch tires..hat old slant six was really screaming "slow down"..lol

I did one remote in the old WHINner van before they retired it. I sat in the Big K lot giving away electric griddles and crock pots................I never had the honor of using the mail truck.

About the only memory I have of KIX 104 is of them occasionally overriding the WRVR signal back in the day. I'm from west Tennessee, and 'RVR was actually a pretty cool station back then.

Would this be Lon Sosh by any chance? Is there any station around here that he has NOT worked for? ::)

Is this building still there? I'm guessing that it is (or was) on the same corner where Maggiano's is now.
