So who/what is going to replace Burbank? Does anyone know yet?

The amazing thing about Randy Michaels' time at WLW was he basically competed with what he build at 55KRC. While at double nickel he did everything he could to make WLW seem old. When he arrived at 700, Michaels topped himself. The climax was stealing the Bengals from KRC without play by play coverage. WLW did their own pre and post game shows outside of the control of the Brown family and encouraged listeners to watch the game on WLW-T and return for their post game show.

Another amazing anomaly in regards to WLW back in the day was music. There were an over abundance of AC station so WLW stood out by targeting men and emphasizing rock, especially hair bands. The station that gave us Ruth Lyons and Bob Braun years earlier now played songs like "Once Bitten Twice Shy" among others.

As far as Burbank, he ended on top but I have to admit like others he was at 100 percent around 1990. There were so much like "Bushman" "All My Bengals" (WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!), and "Cab's Groaner Barn" One of my favorite moment from around that time was "Ask Andy". Andy Mac did sports at 2:45 and one day answered a listener's question. Much like SOC it grew into a daily bit. Listeners would ask Andy questions about anything and he would have an answer, not necessarily correct but an answer. A popular question usually revolved around how a thermos knows to keep hot things hot and cold things cold. But my two favorites:

"If God is Love and Love is blind, does that mean Jose Feliciano is God?"

and

"Why is it at self service gas pumps that when women are done pumping gas they put the nozzle up while men have to shake it twice?"

Good times! :)

To get back to the subject:

IT WILL BE EDDIE FINGERS AND TRACY JONES. DONE DEAL. ANNOUNCEMENT SOMETIME AROUND 1/5/08.

I too remember the good ole days of WLW. Burbank first came in and did mornings having replaced the "Morning Mayor" JFPO. Remember the MidDay split - 10-12 had Michaels and Gardner and from 12-2pm MidDay got more serious when newswoman Traci Pratt and business reporter Scott Moss took over. Then it was Bill Gable from 2-6, he had many outrageous bits and I remember him as being the first one to drag Andy Mac into his bits. They use to run phony Ronco/K-tel type commercials that were always tagged as "A Mac-Gable Production."
Burbank went to afternoons when Jim Scott came to 700 and they really had no place for Bill GAble. He was also a great talent.
Soon thereafter Midday was all Michaels and Gardner until McConnell came along.
If I remember for a short time one summer Pat Barry did MidDay and it sucked, at one point he played trivia alot a la Trivial Pursuit.
Don't listen to the Big1 one muuch anymore. Not the same.

I remember Pat Barry from his afternoon radio gig, I think pre-Hannity on 550.

He's the one who always had to appear smarter than each and every one of his callers, so he essentially p*ssed on every one of them.

That show should be made a case study in how not to treat your callers.

Well there is a weekend guy up here in Columbus on WTVN who does the same thing. His name is Dirk "Hunt" Thompson. He doesn't like to use his real last name for obvious reasons.

Just say Dirk Hunt very fast.

Caught half a news story on WLWT at 5:30. They reported that Fingers will be part of a show involving someone else(I missed that part of the story). Also don't know if Fingers will continue mornings on EBN or not. Anyone see the story?

I actually now hope Tracy Jones gets it. I'm on the air at ClassX from three to six, and it'll be nice to know I'm not missing anything.

Jim Scott announced this mnorning that today at 3:00 all the questions will b e answered. I found that funny considering that Rush was on the air yesterday in that time slot. Maybe and I hope Rush isn't permanent! We'll see at 3:00

Yea, he was. It is funny. They are running taped "best of" promos for the Gary Burbank Show from 3:00 to 6:00 and the doing live mentions of the surprise coming at 3:00 PM to be sure to tune in. That has to be planned, noone programs a station that badly!

If it is Eddie Fingers, I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to do his morning show on 'EBN. A similar siutation has been happening in Tampa for years now. MJ does the morning show on 'FLZ (Top 40) then does the afternoon drive show on WFLA-AM (News-Talk) as Todd Schnitt.

It is not possible to do a quality radio show (Top 40 or talk) working 8 a day. With prep time for both shows, that would be 12-14 hours a day. Yes, a single person could do it, but not of any quality.

Both of his shows are syndicated...and very successful ratings wise. And a lot of the stuff that he does in the morning can be recycled onto the afternoon show due to the fact that its a different audience.

Is this the same Jeff that used to be partnered with Fish at KISS FM?

I liked Tim & Jeff. Especially as both times I called yesterday, I didn't get through before the topic change at the top of the hour but Jeff was nice enough to personally talk to me both times and ask what I was going to say, and he even asked followup questions. I thought that that was very cool and you never ever see that kind of courtesy in this business.
