SOME AREA RADIO MYSPACERS

Is Jeff Ryan really considered a "blast" from the past?

He was on weekends.

The other names I don't even consider blast from the pasts either.

BY THE WAY. Many more FUN 107 people... Scott Medeiros has one, J-Rod has one...I forget who else - its on the FUN 107 Group on MySpace.

Jeff worked at both Fun 107 & B101 & if I'm not mistaken he pulled some shifts on WSNE so I'd say yes he's a blast from the past. Also, while many in the business rationalize these things as ways to interact with listeners, they really are not & are aimed more at those in the biz & friends so from an insider point of view people know who Jeff is & I'm not just saying that because he posts here.

I won't go into my usual myspace rant as people on message boards disagree with me but people not on message boards agree. If they're there to promote the station then fine & try to stay as responsible as you can. If they're not there to promote the station then keep the call letters off it & f-bomb to your heart's content.

Maybe I'm missing it but if most of the people you interact with on myspace are the ones you know personally anyway & you both have computers, why don't you just email unless it's important that the rest of the world see you interacting?

Myspace ,
breeding ground for morons.
who's the 27 yr old woman with 5 lbs of make up on using the F word? STUPID and TASTELESS.
and Scarpetti, you're too nice a guy . JUST TOO NICE!

My big problem with myspace when it comes to any community (like radio) is that it's a public display of idiocy. I've even heard lately of people getting in hot water & even losing radio jobs because of their spaces & blogs. Radio people have always lived in an insulated community & some justifications I've heard about myspace putting you in touch with listeners is nonsense. It's been ingrained in our brains since day one that requests are not indicative of what most want to hear. They're a vocal minority. Myspace is the same thing when it comes to listeners. And as far as using it to network that's just as much nonsense. You have a computer & you have an email. If you really knew these people that well you could be networking without inviting the world to watch you do it. That's all it it. You want the world to watch you do it. If I were programming a station NO ONE would have objectionable content on his or her space. Get it off, make the space private, remove the calls,or find another job. I think people who work in rock can go about as much further as their stations'websites go but as a rule of thumb, your space never goes further than your station's site does.

There are a few I'm impressed with here as they're indicative of radio people who know they're public figures & act like representatives of their stations. Some of the others are pathetic. Who the hell would even want to live next door to some of these people much less work with them?

I try and stay away from My Space because Dateline NBC warned me I could be solicited, but I did go and check out some of the pages: I agree that one in particular was ridiculously tasteless with the F-Bomb. Definitely... be responsible or keep your stations call letters off the website. The calls will be there long after you.

I think it's fun to read the salaries if they list them...$100,000-$150,000 ???

Did Giovanni do this voluntarily or did he lose a bet?

Myspace is a community of over 100 Million people all across the world. It allows a much further reach than a Radio station that only reaches 50 miles in any one direction. Therefore I think it's an ideal promotional vehicle when done right. Anyone who wants to ignore a website with that kind of popularity and Worldwide Reach is just doing themselves a disservice.

Yeah myspace is full of idiots.... but so is Life. That's the point. These idiots that you see on myspace are the same idiots who are listening to your radio station. These are the idiots who keep you in business and Make you Number One! So don't ignore the idiots. Embrace them. They are the ones who keep you in business.

Oh yeah..... I have a myspace account too. So I guess that I'm an idiot as well. :)

Giovanni and I had a conversation about this topic that was posted...he didn't lose a bet...and the fact that he gets more emails from listeners than his 92prof.com email account I think speaks for itself...myspace for some of our radio people is simply a marketing tool...you present yourself in a somewhat professional manner and encourage listeners to contact you to email requests or to simply discuss topics in top 40...my opinion--and I think a few on-air people may agree---you get to meet (not necessarily in person) people in the field that you would never have interacted with before myspace became big. I met Joel Denver through myspace and even went out with my boyfriend in March to eat dinner with him in Malibu....myspace is a great networking tool---but the smart ones make sure that their profile is somewhat tame seeing they are in the public view...mine probably would be alot more representative of my true-self if I didn't work at a college..i have students that view my profile,,and if i need to meet with them in a judicial type atmosphere--its hard to gain respect from people if you represent yourself in a serious manner if you're swearing like a truck driver and offending people.

MySpace is for 13 year old girls and child predators.

You're wacky. Check it out sometime instead of judging the website based on some preconceived notion you have. Do you know how many celebrities have myspace accounts? More than you would imagine. I'm friends with four or five of them who I've spoken with.

There are over 100 Million people on the site. Come join in the fun. There are some great people on there. You are really missing out if you choose to avoid the site just because of the Bad press it gets. Theres a lot more good than bad on myspace.

Skynet,
This is one of the few times I disagree with you.
It is the number 1 site in the World for preditors of all kinds.
Its turned into a crap hole.
You're better than that Web Site.
One of the 'professionals' on the first posting (a 27 yr old female) uses the F word
and , well....
My Space needs to clean up it's act.

The F WORD??!??

Oh no! I've never heard the F WORD before. ::)

The F WORD hurts my feelings. :'(

Which one is it? I want to see who dares to use the F WORD!

Ok.... here are a few of the people on my friends list. John Melendez (announcer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno), Chris Knight (Peter from The Brady Bunch), Josh Blue (Recent Winner of Last Comic Standing) John Heffron (previous winner of Last Comic Standing), Claudia Jordan (Model on NBC's "Deal or No Deal"). I met most through myspace. John Melendez and Claudia I knew from before. These people all seem professional to me.

Bottom line is that there are a lot of great people on myspace. If you want to focus on predators than you mine as well get off the internet. Perverts were on the internet long before myspace existed. So why don't you blame internet providers for allowing them online? That would be kind of silly... wouldn't it?

Well Blaming myspace is just as silly.

The only thing I blame Myspace for is not doing anything about the underage users and the pedophiles when they are reported to the Powers That Be. Myspace ignores a number of complaints about underage users, inappropriate content, and pedophiles.

Hi Shawn. I'm not challenging your information. But I would like to ask how you know if Myspace ignores complaints? From what I've seen, myspace has always cooperated with Police whenever illegal activity has taken place.

So if I get a job at Burger King does that mean I cant swear on my Myspace profile? Because I rep the company?

Come on now. Most of you are being ridiculous. Keri (or anyone for that matter) can do what they want in their personal life. What she says on her page should have NO baring over her career. Look at the bio:

I'm a talk-show host, newspaper columnist and radio station program director. A radio geek at heart ... I love all things political and I'm a fighting pitbull democrat. I eat conservatives for breakfast -- and get into arguments for a living -- it's the best job in the world. Listeners checking in -- be advised -- this is a private, personal page -- free from monitoring from the FCC ... so if you think you might be offended by adult language and content ... please check out NOW.

So if you ARE offended by a word you've heard millions of times, do as she says and check out. Nobody will miss you.

The people on this website are such marks for the radio business. There are some solid people who post here but the majority of people are either :

1) Hacks who couldn't make it in the business and love to bash anyone currently in it..
2) People who wish they could be in the business but don't have the skills or education to do so.
