John1 below brings up some excellent points. I did some more WBYN listening on the way home, and this whole thing just smells way too fishy:
1) First of all, John1 made an excellent point about WRDR in New Jersey doing a FOUR MONTH stunt meant merely to shake up the local leader, before flipping to the REAL format. As I said last night, the posts about the "flip" and the "wolf at the door" show that Nassau is having fun with us radio geeks. And we can't say we're not enjoying it.
Back to the point at hand though, could this whole Frank thing be meant merely to confuse the heck outta Y-102, hoping they make some sorta reaction to this, then the "Wolf" with country hits on April 1?
2) Secondly, I find it very quirky (and fishy) that they keep saying "Reading's New # 1 station." "Reading this." "Reading that." How often have you heard any station from Reading say "Reading" so much? It just sounds weird. This is not Philadelphia. This is READING. WEEU goes by "The Voice of Berks County." WRFY doesn't even usually mention the area they cover. Why would a station with a signal like WBYN focus so heavily on the few square miles of Reading? Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it seems weird ... almost as if this is part of the joke to get the folks at Y-102 all charged up and nervous.
I dunno. Just my thoughts. In the meantime, as boring as the current format is to some of you, this whole flip is still fun. And I give it a 50/50 chance it'll get more fun in a few weeks. Just my opinion. <P ID="signature">______________
