Something Is Happening At 103.9 WKPE-FM

is this their site? just a pic of a jukebox, no other info/streaming...oldies?
http://www.classicrock1039.com/

Some other pages on their site showed up on search engine but when you click them
you get Access Forbidden! Due to presence of WBCN I can't really pick them up on
my home stereo here in Beverly

Sometimes between replays of American Pie, they're playing some horse sounds, and yee haws. That probably means country. Oldies would overlap a lot with WOCN.

Could be...you have to wonder though if one line in that song would give you a clue: maybe they're
dropping music and becoming talk (highly unlikely, but if they did that it would be "the day the
music died"... ;) )

They've added another song to the rotation, a standard sounding song "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" by a female artist.

The "yee-haws" and horse sounds might mean that a country format is on its way, but at this point, it's anybody's guess. Maybe a talk format is coming as well, since the song being played ia American Pie. Also, the logo on the website appears to say Cape Cod's K. What does K mean? Perhaps that jukebox is blocking out the rest of the word or words? Is there any chance that someone can get some audio of the flip when it occurs? I'm sure that some people would like to hear it.

The juke box is just blocking out "Classic Rock" from the old logo. I'm recording right now, but I wish they'd give a time that this is going to all happen.

Well, with the clues that have been given so far (horse SFX, yee-hawing), I wouldn't be at all surprised if they flipped to Country. Shouldn't someone alert the Format Change Archive? I would listen online, but the website is only displaying that doctored logo. Hey, maybe the jukebox that's covering up the words Classic Rock could serve as some sort of clue as well Hmmm...

By the way, there seems to be a similar post on this topic at another site.

Country would be a perfect fit at 103.9, and probably a nice sell with 99.9 WQRC, 104.7 WOCN, and 107.5 WFCC. For a station that isn't in the market, WCTK 98.1 has always pulled great numbers on the Cape. But with the pending demise of the rock format at WPXC 102.9, which would leave Cape Cod essentially free of rock stations, Nassau may want to reconsider their plans.

Update: When you move your mouse over the image now, the message says "WKPE is changing - stay tuned for more information - YeeHaw!"

I'll take possible Country format for $2,000, Alex...

Perhaps K 103.9 will be the new positioner?

Another very good point, but jlehmann said that the K is part of 'Classic Rock'. I was actually thinking that the new station was going to be called K 103.9 for a bit as well. This is why I love format changes. It's like a game for the listeners - here are some clues; guess what the new format will be. The clues have been carefully placed in the stunting and apparently in the logo as well. This will be interesting once it's over with.

And who knows - perhaps the "yee haw" imaging and the message on the "alt" is just a bluff?

Could be. The fact that they were playing American Pie over and over might hint at an FM talk format. "The day the music died," which is part of that song's lyrics, could give reference to that. But of course, radio stations do all kinds of things while stunting before a format change. They could be hinting at one thing, and then they might do something that'll have the listeners thinking, "Well, that certainly came from out of left field." Sometimes radio stations try to throw us off course with these clues in their stunting or on their websites, but other times, the clues are more or less accurate. Only time will tell whether FM 103.9 in Cape Cod will become Country, FM Talk, or something else. Stay tuned...

i'm new here but i am here to give info about wkpe entercom and nassua want to bring weei to the airwaves of capecod,nh and maine couple this channel be the cape cod affliate??? maybe just a guess

Nassau does not own WKPE, Sandab does, along with WQRC, WOCN, and WFCC. Scott Fybush reported back in August that WPXC would be where WEEI ends up on Cape Cod. Obviously nothing has happened yet, but when/if it does, the cape will be without rock at all, unless you count Cool 102 or Frank FM.

I like the slogan "Cape Country 104 " if that matters any... Yippee Yay Yo Yi Yay !!

I find it funny that when you Google "wkpe", you'll get the old "Classic Rock 103.9" hit but the description still reads: "Ocean 104 FM - Cape Cod's Best Music - WOCN 103.9 FM."
