Our station chose SexyBack as the #1 song based on what a lot of you were saying about Yeah. It was everywhere. And I think it's safe to call him the pop artist of the decade. The song has amazing shelf life.

'How You Remind Me' was the most-played song of the decade (1.2 million spins); the other six songs which received more than a million spins, in descending order, were 'Drops Of Jupiter', 'Hangin' By A Moment', 'Breathe', 'Kryptonite', 'The Way You Love Me' and 'I Hope You Dance'.

Country megastar Tim McGraw amassed 7.8 million spins over the course of the decade, which enabled him to finish in first place as the decade's most played artist, encompassing all genres.

Rounding out the top ten were Toby Keith, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Nickelback, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks and Green Day.

Because of how fragmented things have become I bet there are plenty of people who have never heard of "Apologize" despite it being the #1 single of the decade. In earlier times a song that big would have hit critical mass.

I guess I'm not the chart watcher I used to be. I am surprised that "Apologize" was that huge. It didn't seem that special to me. Just a song that got a lot of airplay when it was a current, It didn't seem to create any kind of buzz or excitement. I would have been surprised to learn it was #1 for the year much less the decade.
