Songs Not On CD or Almost Impossible to Find

Billy Joel, "Sometimes a Fantasy," the version that was available only on the 45, the one in which it DOESN'T fade out at the end of it, and Billy screams out "I've got blisters on my blisters!" at the very end, a take-off on the "I've got blisters on my fingers!" ending to the Beatles' "Helter Skelter."

I have this version of "Sometimes a Fantasy" on CD, only because an internet friend recorded his 45 of it onto a CD for me a little over 10 years ago, and yes, I still have it! 8)

Checked my library and this is one I DON"T have! (Back to the store). Is this the song that starts with the phone touch-tones? the 45 has different tones than the LP version. When the record came out I was a DJ and got curious one night. I played the tones over the phone line. The 45 version hangs up in the middle. The LP version called Root Beer Rag, the Billy Joel fan club magazine at the time. They weren't aware of this fact.

That would be the one. I wasn't aware of any differences at the beginning, only at the end as I described above. The album version had the early fade. The single kept on going so that you could hear it "break down" at the end.
 
A lot of local music from your area and mine may not be on CD. One example from Ohio is "Child of December" by Larry Sanders on Stone Head Records based in Mansfield, Ohio. A good, leisurely paced Soft Rock/Pop tune that got airplay on WHLO-AM 640 in Akron, Ohio. The song went on to be included as an album track by the band Climax of "Precious and Few" fame.

i also have an extensive lp, 45 and cd libraryand have burned around 40,000 into the library..over the years I have given away and been ripped off by people out of my huge investment...well guess what, 20 years ago the recording indusry introduced cd's at 150% cost an lp and probably their production were cut by at least 50%.... i bought thousands of cd's at $13.98 when i should have been paying $10.00 or much less.......now I down load everything for free from you tube and don't lose a minutes worth of sleep, and i certainly don't think I have stolen anything either....

I'm not sure what you mean by "investment". Are you saying that you bought records for the purpose of financing your retirement?
 
Chicago's Quadraphonic Release of the Greatest Hits Album, has mixes that are not on CD. For instance, 25 or 6 2 4 with that extended guitar, not on the CD as they only mastered it from the Stereo Album.

I don't have their limited edition quadraphonic dvd of their first album, but 25 or 6 2 4 isn't on that one.

Also the Quadraphonic release of Barbara Streisand's Stoney End isn't on CD, either. Just the stereo one.

no I bought them for my personal collection and my DJ business...my retirement was secure, I live off my royalties ...I wrote all the songs recorded by the Monkees,Turtles and Herman's Hermits.
 
The original hit recording of Buckner & Garcia's Pac Man Fever has never been on CD. I still have my 45 as well as my 45 of "Goin' Down" by Greg Guidry.
 
Buy a program called Total Recorder. You can then go to YouTube and record whatever you want. You have to record the song in real-time, but it comes out clean as a whistle. You will need to use Adobe Audition to edit the dead air out of the beginnings that you will most likely get by hitting the record button first on Total Recorder, then the Play on the YouTube file. Works fine for me, and what's great is you can pick the compression of the save on the file from MP3 to Wave.
 
I do this with a seven year old piece of software called Roxio 7..Then I can remix it to make it better sounding...not the actual file as it comes out pristine..but eq the file to stand out more...a lot of the songs suffer from being 20,30, 40 years old..and the recordings were great for the day..but they can be embellished without losing the original sound...i can save it either as wave or mp3..sometimes the vocals are "buried" back in the mix..I pull them out front a tad...and make the file really stand out compared to the original recording..especially if it's mono..sometimes adding a touch of reverb makes a ton of difference if the song was recorded "dry"..

You didn't get ripped off...............you just made a bad "investment". Play those records and enjoy them.

I found out on you tube if you check out different version you will eventaully (at 95%) find a stereo cut,,,I was astonished to find stereo cut of Johnny Be Goode almost all the chuck berry pre-60's is mono....i use a free down loader called real player and it comes with a converter which asks for the your preferred routing to you hard drive..again adobe is a $500 software there used to be a free software called audacity that does the same as Adobe. I was just used to adobe and thats why i went that route...

I have real player as well as audacity..but neither works as well or as simply as Roxio 7..but then again It's what you get used to..I've never used adobe...I might be missing something there..Yea I do searches on You Tube all the time and always am amazed what is out there..especially videos that go back to the early sixties with obscure one hit wonders..sometimes have to listen to several different versions to get a good audio feed..
 
to the original intent of this thread...

ZZ Top - Legs. original 45 rpm single was a hotter mix than the album cut. fast forward to 2012 and you never find the hoter mix.

Bruce Springsteen - Sana Claus is coming to town - the "hit" version was live, but so are MANY other versions out there. if you don't have the one with him asking Clarence if he's gonna get a new sax, then you don't have the hit. (i do have a copy of this)

Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall - original single version, with the intro. very hard to find.
 
Eres Tu Mocedades EZ listening "Songs of your Life"-type stations spin this one now and then, but airplay on Oldies stations is fading. As far as CD availability, I am not qualified to say; haven't browsed the CD dept in 2-years.

The only You Tube version of the original Johnny B. Goode on Chess in stereo that I could find was a fake created by someone using Audacity software. If there is a true stereo version on You Tube somewhere, please post the link for us.

The only You Tube version of the original Johnny B. Goode on Chess in stereo that I could find was a fake created by someone using Audacity software. If there is a true stereo version on You Tube somewhere, please post the link for us.
