Songs that CHR missed that should've been hits

Lifehouse's "Broken" appears to be one pop is missing... very sadly!
Matt Nathanson's "Come On Get Higher" also should have fared better at the format.

Z100 hit Mercy and Run the Show quite a bit.

Maroon 5 is what Matchbox 20 was about 6-7 years ago. They're tired. They need a big rest.

Weird that a band with two albums in 6 years is "tired'. I'm not disagreeing....it's just a sign o' the times

I'm not so sure it's sign o' the times. They were probably rushed into making the last one. The singles on the latest don't compare to the likes of This Love, Harder To Breathe and She Will Be Loved. They raised the bar too high out of the gate. Same deal with Alanis Morrissette and Hootie & The Blowfish in the 90's. Everybody owned Cracked Rear View and Jagged Little Pill because they were solid and practically every song was a single or had single potential. 2nd album for both tanked. That Maroon 5 single with Rihanna was anything but a hit. We didn't touch it but the competition was all over it :)

x2 on this and about Z103.5

(no, I didn't steal your name but let's not go there)

and i'm thinking "Maroon 5 and Rhianna? NOT!!" One "match" that wasn't even made in heaven... :)

"Rise Above This" definitely sounded like a hit to me... it never did get much of a chance either here or at Hot AC... some good promo and a re-release might get this one somewhere eventually.

"Mercy" just called out HORRIBLY... it was given every chance in the world to be a hit here and it just flat out flopped! The pop listeners simply didn't like it. Very similar story to Amy Winehouse's "Rehab." Lots and lots of hype which the smart pop radio listeners did not buy into it at all.

"It's Over" - "Leavin'" was a very good song... this one was just in the unfortunate position to follow-up one of the year's biggest hits... and, simply put, it just wasn't a very good song.

"If I Never See Your Face Again" was the matching of two great talents with disastrous results... it simply didn't work. Quite honestly, it just sounded like something thrown together at the last minute. Not at all radio friendly.

Adele "Chasing Pavements"
Chromeo "Momma's Boy"
Ercola feat. Daniella "Every Word"
Gavin Rossdale "Love Remains The Same"
Jack White and Alicia Keys "Another Way To Die"
Kerli "Walking On Air"
Kylie Minogue "Wow"
Robyn and Kleerup "With Every Heartbeat"
The Killers "Human"

KILLERS......Human
KERLIE.......Walking On Air
DUFFY........Mercy
KASPER......Whatcha Gon'Do

Kasper was HUGE here in Myrtle Beach; sadly, because it wasn't on a major label, a lot of cookie-cutter PDs and "brand managers" (read: corporate hacks who call the shots for multiple stations in various parts of the country w/no regard for locals' music tastes) paid it no attention.

I know the indie pushers try to work a lot of truly dreadful stuff, but that doesn't mean it's all discardable. This was a SMASH here; EVERY time it played, we'd get a call wondering who it was, what the title was, where to buy the artists's stuff, or something along those lines.

Somebody else said it earlier in this thread (and it's been said, and TRUE, time and again) there are TOO many PDs and "brand managers" RE-acting to charts instead of being PRO-active with music; and people WONDER why radio's losing it's relevance with an audience who has MANY avenues to learn about new music other than their local hit radio station....

...that, and ramming Seacrest down listeners' throats... yeah, that'll make people put you #1 on their pre-sets.... please.

I agree about the Killers and Kasper from the K.  Whatchagondo was huge here too... it's its a gem between the crap that the indie pushers work out.  The Killers is slowly building, but it's getting there.  Kerli and Duffy are probably too "out there" for most (Kerli sounds like a mainstream Bjork), but it doesn't mean they can't work.

I'll add on to the list:

Seether "Fake It"
Avenged Sevenfold "Dear God"
Ludo "Love Me Dead" (it burnt out quickly, though)
Kasper From The K "Whatchagondo"
Carrie Underwood "Last Name" (too country for some stations, ftw)
Spill Canvas "All Over You"
Faber Drive "Tongue Tied"
Rehab "Bartender Song" (it's like 5-6 years old. we started on this in April and it was HUGE)
Shinedown "Second Chance"
J. Holiday "Suffocate"
Missy Higgins "Where I Stood"

I've heard the quote "You will never get into trouble for what you don't play" before, and while you'll never get in trouble, I would rather be a station that acts on music and doesn't re-act.  Especially when the CHR format targets the demographic that has many ways to acquire music.

The situation will slowly start improving when the big companies start selling off their portfolios.

"Excuse my French" - Kylie Minogue
"Falling Down" - Duran Duran (now, why on earth didn't these guys get some decent airplay for this track? they aren't exactly obscure.)

The one that pops up in my head is "Green Light" John Legend and Andre 3000

Doesn't exactly look like CHR is missing this one:

33 27 JOHN LEGEND Green Light f/Andre ... 1630 1141 489 6.491

regarding Kasper from the k, he had a second single that was just as good called shake it down. i got great response playing both tracks on my internet station.
