I have a couple months of Sony's F1HD under my belt, and the experience is POSITIVE [on FM] - It's an EXCEPTIONAL FM tuner... I stand by my original "review". FM "HD" is impressive... AM
"HD" IS NOT - Maybe speaking volumes in regards to the "
defective and destructive" AM "HD tecnology"
Shy of AM stations turning-off their analog envelopes, I don't think the current "flavor" of digital on AM is practical -
INFACT, I FEEL IT IS DOWNRIGHT DESTRUCTIVE!
If AM radio is "harnessed" to its current modulation scheme, a better
initiative might be to MANDATE a MINIMUM AM STANDARD on consumer receivers
including C-Quam stereo [WHICH WORKS WELL, btw]
and a "cleansing" of the band... Possibly an insentive to get many of these "trash" stations over on FM to "clear the room"... For goodness sake, there's enough instantly-revocable "evangelical" translators populating the FM band - KICK THEM TO THE CURB - the current rules allow that to happen!
1520 WSVX Shelbyville, IN augments their pathic "nightime coverage" with a 200-something-watt FM rig feeding tower-three on their AM array... In "exchange", THEY
SHOULD BECOME A DAYTIMER... Another nearby example is the
exemplary 1580 WIFE Connersville, IN - an
AWESOME oldies station nuetered by a mere FIVE-WATTS past sunset [
NO FM in this county seat of
17,000 thanks to the penny-stock and Moody's-downgraded Radio One - [THANK YOU, R-1 for your 1-share in Cincy] :

] WIFE's current management should have recourse and a "fighting chance"... It's a WIN-WIN propostion - better LOCAL coverage AND a less-trashy AM band.
'Done with my common sense lecture
