Sophi Getting some Energy

I'd like them to keep Sophie as HD 2 instead of simulcasting KROQ out of LA. We already have too much rock music. In response to an earlier post, Q96 is not a real station being as you can't drive 30 seconds without it fading into static and forget about trying to listen to it on anything other than a car radio. I'd love to see Z90 shift back to a Rythmic station as they are pretty much pure Top 40 now.

Launch was decent, I liked the speeding up of Blow at the end. I didn't like how they did the music clips and the songs they promo'd kicking off the format were old. Maybe they were planning this awhile? We'll see based on this hour's music what they have planned format-wise. First song is a big dance track and crossover CHR song: Feel So Close by Calvin Harris. 10,000 songs in a row!

Was it just me or do people get chills listening to the demise/end of a station and moving on to greener pasture?

My thoughts:
- Nice fitting end to Sophie by playing Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved
- Transition: Ke$ha - Blow >> was decent. Liked the fast paced ending to have a feel for the "Energy" in Energy 103.7
- Rest of the transition: I think it's sloppy but I think it's indicative of a transitioning, so I'm okay with it.
- Calvin Harris - Feel So Close >> first track: It was okay but should've been a more upbeat track.

Did they blow out all the talent as well as the station? I know they are playing 10000 in a row right now but will there be anyone live and local behind the mic once that's over and done?

Well finally another choice to listen too. Its not close to XHMORE Rhythmic format but atleast its a shot. This format should do go for San Diego. One advantage theyll have over Channel its will be live with dj's.

Re: Sophie Getting some Energy

From the SD Union-Tribune:
http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/mar/29/radio-station-sophie-1037-gets-new-name-new-sound/

“We have retained the entire Sophie air staff with the possibility that they will be part of the new station,” said Bob Bolinger, senior vice president and market manager of CBS Radio San Diego. “All of these guys have done other formats; they’re not one-trick ponies. There is no bigger fan of Jen and Mike and the rest of the staff than me.”

There'll be jocks on-air on the morning of Wed. 4/25/12. This means they'll go 26.5 days jockless.
Theoretically to get to 10,000 songs, they'd have to play 377.36 songs a day, 15.72 songs per hour at an average of 3:49 per song -
sounds about right. ;)

Note that the April 2012 Arbitron survey period runs from Thu. 3/29/12 through Wed. 4/25/12. Results from that period will be announced on Tue. 5/15/12.
The March 2012 (Thu. 3/1/12-Wed.3/28/12) survey results come out on Tue. 4/17/12.

The Will Ferrell/Ron Burgundy clip that played during the station's opening montage was from the Wednesday night 3/28/12 Conan O'Brien show on TBS. The "Anchorman 2" announcement appears after the 3:28 mark in the clip embedded in the article linked below:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2012/03/anchorman-2-will-ferrell-ron-burgundy-conan.html

From Mediabase.com, the "Songs Played" list for Thu. 3/29/12 from 4pm PT forward (format switch shortly after 5pm PT at the end of Ke$ha's "Blow"). The top power rotation is approximately 75 minutes. Lots of recurrents.

UT San Diego reports the former Sophie staff is still with the station. Bob Bolinger, SVP of CBS confirmed. Although morning show host morning show hosts Jennifer White and Mike O'Brian are still under contract with the station. Question is can the djs blend in with the station?

Im sorry but Mike O'Brian couldnt blend a slurpee ! So he will be horrible on that station! Whoever is in control of the processor needs to do something about it! 103.7's sound is terrible for that format!

For CHR and fidelity Q96.1 sounds really good, dont know what happened but I tuned it in tonight and they stepped it up a notch!

That's a lot of CHR stations. We got Channel 933, Q96, Z-90,and now Energy 1037? The next question. Is "Energy"
a mainstream CHR like Channel and Q-96? or is it Rhythmic-leaning like Z-90?

WOAH!
Nice to see CBS giving Hit-Radio another try, and its nice to see Amp radio make it's way down the 5. I've listened to Hot 95 in Houston, 92Now in LA, and Amp Radio. These are some very tight stations, not very different from what Q106 sounded like back in the day. Yes, it is interesting to see San Diego suddenly have 4 CHRs, after so many years... (psst, the Energy website is the same as the AmpRadio LA website...)

BTW: I believe 103.7 becomes the first Top 40 since KS-103 to originate from the Soledad stick (unless you count Star 100.7, and B100 briefly before it flipped).

I'll bet if Energy really takes off in the ratings,we'll likely see some changes at the other CHR stations. Channel 933 might
even make some small changes to stay number one. It'll sure be interesting to see how Energy 103.7 does in the ratings.

Missing from this conversation? Where does this leave FM 94/9? Does this open the door for them to blow it up and move to a Hot AC?
