Sound card? Audio Science vs. Digigram - BEST SOUND?

In a previous post, many of you shared that Digigram and Audio Science sound cards are both excellent.

Which of the two offer the best sound or is there no difference?

Thanks! josh

We have the AS cards here, like a dozen of them, most of them in our on-air machines. To my knowledge, we've never had the slightest glitch with any of them. As for Digigram, I believe that's what we had at one of my previous employers, and the situation was the same in both numbers and reliability. I would say just go with whichever one is cheaper.

On the low end AS card (5111, if I remember the number right) I can hear a difference between input and output quality when recording, that I don't hear on the comparable Digigram card. Can't say I can tell much difference between the cards on digital playback (e.g., from a ripped cut off a commercial CD).

So my production computers have Digigram cards.

On the other hand, some popular automation software, e.g., Simian, is designed to work with the AS mixing software, making it a logical choice over the Digigram cards for those uses.

I have to agree on the AS5111 being a bit of a stinker. We have Player101 at one of my projects and there is a bit of audio degragation going into the card's record input. AS cards in general are fine but I wouldn't suggest the 5111 if quality is what is paramount!

I agree, sound is definitely paramount. It is why we pulled a Digital Audio, Card Deluxe out of our systems. Would you recommend any AS cards over Digigram? THANKS! josh
