Sox are on WEEI tonight?

TSBench said:
No in all honesty it would probably stay on the station it started with...

Also, in all honesty, if in 1804 Jefferson had had to recruit the kind of folks who today can't discover an 'effing ballgame on the radio, we'd be refering to the Missouri River as the 'West Coast'.

See, I told you so. ::)

This is an industry where you need to keep it simple.

Did I hear correctly on Thursday, June 7, Joe Castiglione was on WEEI and said "The WRKO Red Sox Network" or something like that. Do they use WRKO call letters (in reference to the "Network"?) even on WEEI ??

Just asking...

They're supposed to say WRKO Red Sox network when it's on 680 and WEEI when the game's on 850 but there have been times when the game was on 850 and they said WRKO. There were also occasions when the Celtics
were bumped to WEEI earlier this season due to a Sox conflict and the intro with Dana AND Grande, live,
said "on the WRKO Celtics Radio network". That will change next year as WEEI is the flagship

Maybe on the Boston stations, to aid diary keepers, but I've been spending a lot of time in Maine and NH, and the network stations up here all use "WRKO Red Sox Radio Network" regardless of whether the game is being carried on WRKO or WEEI. At the end of Shill's one hitter, for example, the closing billboard (at least on WOXO in Norway) thanked 'the following WRKO Red Sox Radio Network sponsors" and Castig read a laundry list of the usual suspects. Not sure whether this was live or a recording originating at 'OXO.

It was the same on a couple of NH stations I've listened to this season. Always WRKO RS Network, regardless of which station is carrying in Boston.

WBOQ quickly dumps out of any 'RKO promos that are squeezed in ("Howie Carr! Weekdays 3-7 pm on
WRKO"). (Also when there's a rain delay 'BOQ goes to music rather than "A Rain Delay edition of
Sox Talk" but I guess they aren't obligated to carry the talk if they don't want...)

The affiliates aren't happy that the call letters of the flagship are part of the network name
but they gotta play by the rules...

WTMI AM 1290 (legally WCCC) in Hartford will do the same thing duing the Connecticut Sun WNBA Games. (You're listening to the Connecticut Sun on News-Talk 102.3 FM is shoddily covered up by 'You're listening to the Connecticut Sun on AM 1290 Beethoven Radio.') Promos for shows on News-Talk 102.3 are shoddily covered up by Beethoven Radio Commercials.

When there's a rain delay 'BOQ goes to music rather than "A Rain Delay edition of
Sox Talk".

What's the purpose of running SOX Talk during the rain delays anyway? Never was able to figure that out. Doesn't that usually run after the games anyway? During the rain delay during the Yankees-Sox game last week, the Yankees Network affilaites were allowed to do their own thing. Flagship WCBS 880 in NYC was back to their all-news format. WPOP 1410 in Hartford was running their regular ESPN Radio Programming. WWCO 1240 in Watebury, CT was back to their regular simulcast of WDRC 1360. And WICC 600 in Bridgeport was playing automated Adult Contempoary Music with the board-op coming on every so often saying that they'd return to the Yankees game as soon as the rain-delay was over. (WICC is normally a talk station).

The idea is probably to keep listeners tuned in during what they hope is a short delay. Suppose someone tunes in to the game a bit late and hears music or WCBS news, etc. "Ah. Game musta been rained out..." Well, maybe that happens to a few fans.
"You're listening to a rain delay edition of Sox talk..."
(This applies especially to formats like music stations, or talk but not sports talk..people may tune out,
thinking the game's rained out..)

On TV (NESN for example, or TBS with the Braves) they can go to alternative programming but put a graphic
saying "Rain Delay" on the screen (NESN's graphic is fairly tiny though) but not so on radio. WBOQ does
automated music, so no DJ saying "Well, in case you're wondering, the Sox are in a rain delay but in the
meantime we're playing Your Good Time Favorites".

On WCBS at least people will hear, after awhile, "We're in a rain delay at Yankee Stadium and will bring you back
there once the action starts again".

Of course the Red Sox network can also sell spot time during rain delay talk, eh?

WBOQ's going to music shows that affiliates do indeed have control. The board op switches on the computer
or takes a talk show feed off a satellite or something...

I noticed when WPRO carried the Sox games, they'd have the op on duty knock out the "WEEI" from "On the WEEI Radio Network". WTIC does something similar; the y sloppily cover with a Sean Caldwell drop that says, "on News Talk 10-80, WTIC Hartford". Stuff like that is very annoying....
