Sox Radio Ads on Mike FM

I have been hearing ads for the Sox on 850 WEEI on Mike FM 93.7 Probably just cross promtion but hoping it might signal that Sox games might be on Mike FM too.

Two guys from band Brittanica do Kars for Kids (Jordan Rich, WBZ)

http://raccoonradio.freehostia.com/Air/BritKars.mp3

Presumably BOQ is still carrying the games if you see their website, incl. one page with a countdown timer to beginning of spring training and a flash bit that says "Listen to Red Sox on North Shore 104.9" with a "Go Sox!" flashing and the logo for Sox shows up on main page, too.

WMKK would cover a lot of areas and people like me who work nights would be able to hear games clearly, though the intent of Entercom to keep Mike as it is--and it gets good ratings--might make one think they wouldn't want them to simulcast Sox games. They figure people want their variety hits, and taking a 3 hour (-plus) break for each Sox game would take away from the music. It could well attract new listeners too, though--"people tune in to game and stay tuned for music". If Entercom had another FM property in town which perhaps wasn't doing well, you could imagine
them maybe putting WEEI simulcast on there. For example, suppose Entercom owned WBOS
in addition to what they have. (And I don't think it would be for sale, but...) Then the cluster would be:
WRKO--talk
WEEI--sports talk, Sox, Celts
WMKK--variety hits
WBOS--simulcast of WEEI
WKAF, WAAF--rock

Now if WMKK were to really crater in the ratings, you may see it, but outside of maybe
Entercom feeling adding _Sox games only_ (or Celts too?) could add some listeners
but not take too much time away from variety hits, THEN maybe...

yes that would be a great idea down here in southeastern mass i cant get weei for the redsox or celts :( so a fm alternative would be great i cant even tune in 103.7 down here but wbos, waaf or wkaf come in better!! too many lights at my work at night and so forth and lately weei fm isnt coming in great even in my car!! those are my thoughts

In SE MA, how about WEII 96.3 FM from Dennis on the Cape?

Doesn't WMKK already carry the Sox on one of their HD channels?

WMKK 93.7 HD3 is a simulcast of WEEI.

As I've mentioned before while WEEI is simulcast on WMKK's HD 3, the radio reception at work is so horrible that other than getting the HD3 in our breakroom (why bother? WEEI and to some extent
WBOQ come in as it is _there_), it simply won't come in on workroom floor (other than recording WEEI on cass. on a mini boombox at edge of building to listen to later on). I'd settle for
games back on WRKO--I can hear them via mini FM transmitter but WEEI wouldn't work.
But the games aren't on RKO other than some that get bumped there (very few)

This is why I'm listening to audiobooks on an mp3 player instead. Ayn Rand, Dennis Miller,
Hampton Sides (Hellhound On His Trail), Mark Steyn, etc., yes; Red Sox, no.

Would hope so too, though I will note that RKO has been running cross-promo ads too--for WAAF.

Last night I heard a Mike-FM promo on 'RKO.

I've always thought cross-promotion in certain dayparts (nights) is genius! If you've got stations with different demos, and you've got inventory (oh boy does RKO have inventory...) why not direct people to your other properties? People change stations, you can't assume they're only going to listen to your ONE station, and putting effort into getting listeners to pick only one station isn't going to work... if they're going to flip, get them to flip to your properties.

On the original subject, we've been over and over this on these boards... I see the sox staying on EEI, and it doesn't look like any FM simulcast is in the works.

no good on the 96.3 too much interference 93.7 comes in alright but after the lights come on that would be ruined as well!!

I noticed in NY CBS Radio does this also. For example listening to WCBS 880 you sometimes hear a promo for WCBS-FM or Fresh 102.7 and even WFAN 660.

Red Sox & Celtics are on WSAR/1480: Fall River. Red Sox are also on WBSM/1420: New Bedford. Both are also Pats affiliates & WBSM also has the Bruins.

cross promotion has been getting bigger ever since the advent of face book twitter etc its another way of getting the word out about things going on in the company!!

I'd also love to hear Red Sox and Celtics on FM radio as well because, where I live in Salem, Ma area (Both) 850AM and 93.7 comes in perfect (day and night) as well as at my Uncle's apartment in Revere. Yes I would also love to hear them on 93.7

But, as I stated before 93.7 signal (inside the city) when you listen on a walkman, any walkman, it doesn't come in well. I'm assuming it's the same if you live and work there. Unless you have a good walkman with an antanna, it might come in better, which is what I recently did. I brought a Radioshaq AM/FM Speaker Walkman $40.00 it has an Antanna. Now, 93.7 comes in perfect both inside and outside the city. But the average regular listener might not do this and might not know this.

If 93.7 can't change to all sports which some of us will love. My idea, is they should change to AC, and have "Sporting News Radio Updates at the top of every hour (example) 6am-Midnight, and around 20: past the hour every hour (6am-Midnight) everyday. That's my idea. because too many stations play Rock and Roll
Not everyone like Rock and Roll

104.9 carries Sox and did have C's at one point.

93.7's stick in Peabody is maybe 15-18 mi from Boston. It should come in on most radios incl car stereos and Walkmen (if you have a DX-local switch make sure it's on DX). But the Mike format works for them because they get good ratings and billing with very little cost. The music selection pleases many people
in desirable demographics. If WEEI's ratings really go down and they hope simulcasting it on 93.7 or moving it there would help, it could happen.
I don't think they would put a network service like ESPN on SNR on there. They'd want to concentrate on
their local sports content on WEEI and this dilutes it. They run ESPN overnight because it's cheap to run.

If anything while you may enjoy SNR, ESPN is a better known name and they have games incl. playoffs. WEEI is currently an affiliate of ESPN while tech. WWZN is Sporting News (Sports Hub started with SNR
affiliation but grabbed Fox Sports when WEEI dumped that for ESPN). Fox Sports is syndie by Clear
Channel/Premiere. If, and only if, WXKS AM were to dump Rush Radio (the hiring of Paula O'Connor
makes me think THAT is unlikely) Clr Chnl could poss. put Fox Sports on 1200 but for now they're
prob happy that the overnight shows are on powerful 98.5

Some sports has turned up on 1200 on wknds--Bell and Lobel, some NFL games...
