Presumably BOQ is still carrying the games if you see their website, incl. one page with a countdown timer to beginning of spring training and a flash bit that says "Listen to Red Sox on North Shore 104.9" with a "Go Sox!" flashing and the logo for Sox shows up on main page, too.
WMKK would cover a lot of areas and people like me who work nights would be able to hear games clearly, though the intent of Entercom to keep Mike as it is--and it gets good ratings--might make one think they wouldn't want them to simulcast Sox games. They figure people want their variety hits, and taking a 3 hour (-plus) break for each Sox game would take away from the music. It could well attract new listeners too, though--"people tune in to game and stay tuned for music". If Entercom had another FM property in town which perhaps wasn't doing well, you could imagine
them maybe putting WEEI simulcast on there. For example, suppose Entercom owned WBOS
in addition to what they have. (And I don't think it would be for sale, but...) Then the cluster would be:
WRKO--talk
WEEI--sports talk, Sox, Celts
WMKK--variety hits
WBOS--simulcast of WEEI
WKAF, WAAF--rock
Now if WMKK were to really crater in the ratings, you may see it, but outside of maybe
Entercom feeling adding _Sox games only_ (or Celts too?) could add some listeners
but not take too much time away from variety hits, THEN maybe...
