SPEAKING OF PAUL HARVEY...LOCAL AFFILIATE?

Confused here...I can track Paul Harvey's local affiliation here back to 1950 at WBAP/WFAA (when they timeshared; Paul was broadcast over 570 then,) then to WBAP-820 after the timeshare agreement ended in 1970. So why do I remember hearing Paul Harvey over KRLD in the early 1970s? There's even some guy on the web who has an aircheck of Harvey on KRLD dated July, 1974. Was he carried on both KRLD AND WBAP? (Considering the separate Dallas AND Fort Worth markets up until 1973~ish, I guess it's possible, but the Dallas Morning News archives are of no help. Then again, the DMN never did anything to plug KRLD, since it was long-owned by the Times Herald.)

I know some folks are used to hearing Chapman filling in for Paul, but remember the longtime stand-in during the 80s and 90s? No other than the late Joe Holstead of WBAP, who covered for Paul's vacations and days-off from 1984-92.

For awhile in the 1970's WFAA-570 was a CBS radio affiliate. The late Mike Shapiro even sat on the CBS radio affiliates board for a time. It could have had something to do with WFAA's switch to talk back then, I don't know for sure. KRLD was ABC, and carried Paul Harvey, WBAP was NBC. This went on until at least 1978-79. I do distinctly remember WBAP and Bill Mack heavily relying on NBC's long form overnight coverage of Elvis Presley's passing. Sometime in the early 1980's WFAA cleared some of the early ABC Talkradio network programing (boring!) and also ran NBC's Talknet up until the switch to KRQX.

In 1976, KRLD had ABC and Paul Harvey....WBAP was NBC radio news and WFAA was CBS radio news...
that's how Paul was on KRLD....and now you know the..............

OK, I can remember some of that...I do recall that there was a BIG brouhaha on August 1, 1975 when the network affiliations were switched between WFAA and KRLD. Maybe I need to dig into the Times Herald around that date to figure out the missing pieces from the earlier part of the 70s. The Morning News was of no help, but I remember it being a pretty big deal.

Thanks to all for the details!

I seem to recall another affiliation switch in the early 80s. If I'm not mistaken it's when WFAA and WBAP swapped ABC and NBC. WRR/KAAM had Mutual.
