Speculation has 104.7 to country

from http://www.pbrtv.com:
>>The “FM News Talk” format began in January 2004.
Meanwhile, there were those who thought 104.7 would become an all sports FM station to compete with KDKA-FM (93.7) but Clear Channel’s plan is to keep their sports station on 970 AM as they work to move an FM translator at 106.3 from Connellsville to the tower at Calvary Cemetery.

A lot of angry and upset people on the old News Talk 104.7 Facebook about the change and also that many can't pick up the AM station.

As for the new station don't care for the name so much. Not sure what else to go with.

Define "a lot". The station had a MSA cume of nearly 140,000 persons. If 50 complained on FB, it's not significant.

To the questioner about whether current or former Yinzers really are involved in this discussion: Current Yinzer, formerly employed in Pittsburgh radio. For what it is worth, of course.

What it's worth is that you have a good chance of actually understanding the unique nuances of the Pittsburgh market. All markets have their unique peculiarities. Pittsburgh has a reputation for an above average quantity of peculiarities. There is a great deal of wisdom behind the saying, "It's a 'Burgh thing."

Angry-old-white-guy talk radio returns to moribund AM band. WJAS contemplating call letter change to WGAS.

=DEVELOPING=

Based on the fact that WJAS got a streaming channel on iheart and that they are advertising the switch from 104.7 to 1320 on CC stations (I heard one today during Mark Madden) it would seem that Iorio brokered some type of licensing deal with CC so Premiere could continue to clear their national spots in Pittsburgh. Curious as to why, if CC was looking for a new home for their talk lineup, Renda just didn't do the deal himself, unless Tony thought the $1 million for the signal was more than he would ever get working with Clear Channel.

Renda is collecting something like $4500 a month from Iorio for use of the tower. Tony gets about $54K a year for nothing and has none of the headaches of trying to sell spots. With the $1 million he got for then license, it's a sweet deal for an AM signal that is close to worthless.

Agreed Renda is getting money for nothing, just curious how much Premiere/Clear Channel may be paying Iorio to clear the network programming, apparently it is enough that the deal was made in the first place because I doubt Iorio goes forward with purchasing 1320 without knowing ahead of time what the plans for 104.7 were.
