Speculation: What's coming to 87.7?

The Russian programming on 87.7 created all the debt for Mega Media. Why would they have launched Pulse 87 if the Russian programming was turning a profit?

Do you have a source?

Perhaps Alex Shvarts thought more money could be made by competing with the big stations. This would not be the first time that a profitable station has changed formats. I think Mega Media was a publicly-traded company, therefore the decision was made that would benefit shareholders.

Non-Hispanic ethnic stations/programs operate with a much different business model than large stations. They don't subscribe to Arbitron. Most advertising comes from small businesses owned by immigrants of the same ethnicity as as the programming. Ethnic groups patronize each other. Ethnic advertisers don't care as much about ratings. They advertise because they like the station, and the station or program has listeners that the advertiser wants to reach.

I think the cost to operate 'Radio Visyo' was less than 'Pulse 87' because Arbitron was not getting paid, and the on-air personalities were cheaper. However, the exorbitant cost to lease WNYZ-LP from Island Broadcasting is the same no matter what format is airing, which is probably the reason why Mega Media got into debt.

The Russian speaking audience in and around New York is big. 'Davidzon Radio' (AM 620 WSNR) is a full-time Russian station that airs mostly talk and news, with music at night, so it seems like a good idea for another station to air a Russian-contemporary music format on FM. Also, WNYZ-LP's signal from Queens easily reaches Coney Island where many Russian speaking people are located.

You really need to stop posting.

The new Russian programming on 87.7 (Radio Pozitiv) has a website:

http://www.radiopozitiv.com/

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Brooklyn-NY/Radio-Pozitiv-877-FM/109353325752327

There is supposed to be streaming audio (second down from the top in the middle of the page), but it does not work.

Here is a translation of the text on the main page:

this is positive, Positive - is us. Positiv - is when the sun on his mind, even in gloomy weather! Positive - this is when you have no particular reason people smile and people smile in answer to you! Positive - this is when I want to sing! Positive - this is We! songs from different years, those that we remember and love to hear that we are happy as children, the songs are ready to sing out loud, being anywhere! Programs, which together we rejoice in life, give presents, and share a good mood and it is all - Radio "Positive" "Wherever you are - Be on the" Positives "!

We - this is positive, Positive - this is us.

Radio "Positive" was created by and for people who live on the bright side of life!

Songs from different years, those that we remember and love to hear that we are happy as children, those whom we are heard loudly in the car, at a table with friends in the kitchen, bathroom, at work ...
Wherever you are - be on the "positive"!

Now that russian programming is on 87.7 again, I wonder if they are aware that Gorod Radio is still on 99.9? However, I'd perfer Gorod over Roadblock anyway ;D

Just lurked at 88.7 FM and I hear a female host taking telephone calls. Is it local? Can anyone understand the phone number they gave out? Wonder if someone slips through and says, "Gimme back my Pulse FM!" ;D

I'm sure that 87.7 'Radio Pozitiv' knows about 99.9 'Gorod FM' (City FM).  But I don't think they care that much.  WNYZ-LP's signal goes out alot farther than Gorod FM's.  I have not heard any advertising on Gorod FM lately, so Radio Pozitiv can obtain the advertising revenue instead.  Plus, AM 620 'Davidzon Radio' has a lawsuit against Gorod FM that could cause the station to shut down.

I found a TV commercial for Gorod FM on YouTube:

That would not make any sense.  Radio Pozitiv has nothing to do with the demise of Pulse 87.7 FM.  Radio Pozitiv is just the new tennant that is leasing from Island Broadcasting.  As everyone knows, there were 2 other tennants that came after Pulse (and before Radio Pozitiv):  Party and 'the indie darkroom'.

Does any know the name of the Russian pirate airing at 95.1?  Does the station have a website?
