Spiff fired at GST, Randy remains

Randy's Spiff-less, definitely Spiff-less... One minute till Wapner... 99X... BAM! The future of morning shows...

I heard it was because Spiff wasn't wearing an American flag lapel pin. How can you tell if he was really patriotic if he wasn't wearing his pin? Besides, do you know what Webster's Dictionary says "Spiff" is? "Dandified" which is another euphemism for GAY!

Neil - - - Spiff loses his gig, and you wanna crack jokes about him, you're a jerk

I wasn't going to reply to this thread until I read Rodney's blog.

This is yet another example of a stupefying seven-year stretch of horrible Clear Channel management. It started with Mix 105.7 and continues through Spiff's termination. Randy & Spiff doing light-hearted interviews and commentaries on current events is exactly what WGST should embrace. Scott Slade and 750 in the morning will never, ever lose to a pale imitation. Hell, WSB wouldn't lose to a goofy duo either; but at least WGST could have its own audience.

When radio history is written, Clear Channel Atlanta's decade of dismissals will be known as, "Chase's and Hogan's Folly."

Pathetic.

I don't know what Clear Channel/Atlanta is billing, but they've driven away every one of their senior salespeople. They've hired a zillion rookies to knock on doors for direct (rather than agency) business, which is what CC wants. CC is not interested in people with long relationships with buyers.

What a disaster.

Great guy, great broadcaster. Oh, the humanity! When will it end?

ON the plus side: CC has zero revenue from Braves playoffs since they've been on board. The Radio Gods speak once and a while at least...

Wouldn't it be nice if a major FM went to some type of an oldies format and the boys were hired and they could do what they do well, spin the tunes. I could name a few fm's that need to change formats.

I wonder if we could get I-R posters "LarryWachs" and "Not LarryWachs" together to do a show? THAT would be spiffy.

Amen, Preach on dear brother. Chump Channel will go down in Radio History as being major losers. And to those who are cracking the jokes, If you even work in the business then I wish the same for you. You don't deserve a job in radio.. Your not fit for it.

You would think that being together for 20 years Randy would walk too.

Randall Bloomquist leaves scorched earth wherever he goes, WBT, WMAL and now WGST.

No wonder stations have a hard time finding talent.

Scorched earth is putting it mildly. The list of employees they've terminated in Atlanta is enormous. This thread has a long list of folks that they kicked to the curb:

I stopped listening to clear channel owned stations about a year ago because of this.

Spiff is STILL a class act and a first-class person besides. I was going to say that he'll hit the ground running, but knowing Spiff like I do, he'll probably hit the BED running. :D

(Hey Spiff! I hear Star 94 is looking for a morning show.) ;)

Clear Channel continues to chew em up and spit em out. i just thank the good Lord I got out long, long ago! Some inside info...I was told by an extremely reliable source months ago that Spiff was having difficulty "fitting in." The problem is CC doesn't have a clue on how to make a good fit.

This is distressing news for anyone who loves radio. This duo was one of the class acts on the radio dial in Atlanta - a true joy to listen to. I hope it won't be too long before they are reunited.
By the way, my prayers not just for Spiff, but also for Randy -- he's got to keep on talking and it can't be fun for him to carry on like this. Both guys have to pay the bills and for Spiff that means saying "no comment" and for Randy it means showing up and being a pro. It's a tough business - I feel bad for both guys. Mike Kavanagh

This actually ties pretty well to something I was going to post any way, so I'll quote it for reference.

By every account I've ever gotten that I hold in any regard these are two of the nicest guys that have been in the business in Atlanta, all around good guys. At the same time, I think I would sooner have my ears pulled off than listen to them prattle on.

From the former standpoint I genuinely hate that they're going through this, by their conduct as professionals they deserve a better fate. But from the standpoint of what's on the air, I'm downright amazed that this generates any concern at all.

Basically what I'm getting at is that the two sentiments you expressed aren't joined at the hip by necessity.
