Spiff fired at GST, Randy remains

"From the standpoint of what's on the air..."

That's just it. Those of us who embraced radio when it was entertaining, informative and innovative are saddened by what it has become. Spiff's departure will have no impact on Atlanta radio, ratings or the industry in general. His departure does however, speak volumes about the lack of creativity, entertainment and information in commercial radio. The days of great local radio are like daytime World Series games, most likely gone forever.

Genuinely nice, genuinely professional, genuinely funny and entertaining. All the things that will get you immediately tossed from a corporate commercial radio station.

I have no idea how things are going on the revenue side of things, but I equate Atlanta radio with Lake Lanier...drying up shockingly fast.

I board opped for Randy and Spiff about a million years ago in Charlotte. They were the nicest guys who never remembered my name. At Jefferson Pilot in Charlotte, I had jocks throw carts at me, curse me for going a minute over the quarter hour, and generally treat me like a chew toy. Randy and Spiff always treated me great. They even invited me to visit Fox 97 when I was in ATL interviewing elsewhere, and they still didn't remember my name. I was used to it by then.

I've worked in the pre-math of Bloomquist at WBT, and the aftermath at another station. I found his big notebook 'o negativity there. He constantly found fault with everything the talent did, while at the same time letting the facility fall slap bang off a cliff. There was not one single word of praise, or direction in the book, just "don't" "sounds bad" "horrible".

So now it's not enough for Clear Channel to simply destroy radio stations. Now they're getting into destroying teams.

Another reason why Clear Channel stations neither in my presets nor listened to by me at any time whatsoever.

Clear Channel...destroyer of everything that works. This company defies all belief in common since and the rules of logic. No wonder why the company is in bad shape.

I wish Spiff good luck in finding work...I hope with Randy. As for WGST...a little polka might save what is left of the station.

That's him to a T.

I can't help but wonder if Clear Channel is doing the same thing with Randy & Spiff that they tried with Kimmer & Wayne. Fire one and see if the other will quit.

What an ugly, meanspirited group you have here. Not getting any regularly, eh? Try walking away from the computer.

Randy & Spiff were forced on Mr. Bloomquist and he's resented it every single day. While he successfully did his best to squash any magic left in their show, let me remind you that this is just the end of one chapter, not the book.

I hope Spiff enjoys his paid vacation sponsored by Clear Channel and will posts some of his outstanding photography where we can find it. Randy will struggle on until the fall book comes out and they either fire him, fire Randolph or fire both. Then he'll enjoy his paid vacation and soon the boys will pop up as a team at another frequency.

They are each outstanding men, fathers, and broadcasters. You would be very lucky to call them friends.

I know both these guys, have worked with them, and couldn't agree more. 100% on the money with this comment.

Uh, were a bunch of messages deleted? What I've read has been almost entirely about what a great couple of guys they are.
