Spike TV

Lastnight a little after 11 when Spike TV went into commerical break during CSI NY, Spike TV never took their logo down when in commerical break. It was left up during all commericals, only time I didn't see the Spike TV logo was when my local cable company ran two local ads. When those ads were done the Spike TV logo was still their and when they came back to the show they didn't do the graphic telling what show your watching. I guess Spike TV was having a tech problem with the logo. Most times that I see a logo during commericals is on a local tv station not cable network. (The ESPN bottomline during commerical breaks during baseball tonight and other ESPN shows doesn't count as ESPN wants to show the bottomline during breaks.)

Most cable networks are running Avid Dekocast for their logos, graphics. Odds are that the timing for that segment wasn't programmed right, and it never triggered the "logo off". Without that command, it couldn't go to the next event, which would be the "you're watching, coming next" etc. graphic followed by the bug. Evidently, the MCO didn't catch it, probably because, unlike the old days when you had one MCO for each network, they're monitoring a number of networks in addition to Spike. The sad part is that there was possibly a ton of advertising revenue lost in that break, and the MCO'll be blamed for not catching the bug in a break.

It depends on the network and their needs/demands. Some still use an old Leitch or Evertz for their ratings, others use the Dekocast. It's a failsafe to use the other logo inserters just in case what happened does happen. The Dekos can pretty much do it all, but they aren't really reliable. They're cheap and do a lot, so you know that's what the brass are looking at. But, you do get what you pay for in that they'll crap out on you with no warning at any given moment.
