Spit

Would somebody please tell the sports cameramen not to focus on players and coaches standing there spitting tobacco? It is disgusting and ruins watching baseball on TV for me. It's bad enough that these athletes are doing something so harmful (and influencing others), but do we have to watch it? Ugh.

Yeah...because that's exactly what the producers of the games are expecting. "Hey, Camera 2...zoom in on the dugout for players' spitting."

Oh. My. Freaking. Gawd. Are you serious with this? And of course, couldn't hesitate with the unprovable "influencing others" crap comment.

For chrissakes dude, drink some warm milk...untighten your undies or whatever your problem is, get help. If that aspect is actually "ruining" the game for you, then you're not a fan at all. This belongs on the Lifetime TV blog. ::)

I don't care if they spit, or "adjust" themselves on camera,,, I WANT TO SEE THE GAME!
Why do there have to be so many closeups in baseball. I hear the announcers talking about an infield shift,, yet all I see on my TV is a close up of the pitcher sweating.
It is wonderful how technology can get us up close like that, sometimes it works, but more often its a waste. I want to see the camera shot from above, behind the batter, so I can see how the fielders are set up,, I want to see how they react to a hit. I want to WATCH the GAME.

At least I can still hear games on radio (XM). There are still some good radio play by play and color guys out there that can give me a better vision of what is happening on the field than I get on TV.

Anyone agree? Disagree?

You think it's bad watching from home, I hear that if you go to a game, you'll find that they actually serve caffeinated beverages and beer at the stadium.

Oh yeah - and fatty foods too! I even heard a rumour that there were some trans fats hiding in a hot dog cart in the corner of the stadium.

They really need to shut these evil places down!! :D

Adult beverages?!? At a baseball game?!?!? They have sin-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n-ned!!!!!!!!

And if a manager and umpire are going at it, you might actually hear something a bit stronger than "Aw, golly gee whiz Mister Umpire! He was safe, you big poopy-head!" ;D

Perhaps I should have mentioned, as Sack so eloquently does, that I tune into the game to see the game, not close-ups and shots of the sidelines.

If that's not tobacco they are spitting, what is it? Another banned substance?

I'm not a puritan and I'm not getting tense about all this, but shut up and show the whole game, not just the inexpressive coach.

Don't get your tighty-whities in a twist over all this. It's just a comment, an observation. In the scheme of things, baseball is not important nor is any sport.

You obviously haven't caught Ron Santo on the Cubs radio broadcasts.

I agree it is dissssssssssgusting that the cameras hone in just when they know a coach or a manager or a player is going to let loose with a big load of who knows what. Maybe the camera should follow this guys into the locker rooms and then they can get an excretion that is even more colorful....usually Yellow. Why not it is more natural than spitting out whatever they are chewing.

Well, there maybe "no crying in baseball" but there sure is a hell of a lot of spitting and it makes all of them look less together than coaches in football or hockey.

But again, I am sure it is just the networks appealing to the lowest common demoninator of its audience that is swilling beer, belching and passing gas as they sit in front of the boob tube with their guts hanging over their wife beater T-shirts.

And dont forget about those scantily-clad football cheerleaders who are causing us (well...me anyway..) to think impure thoughts and cloud our (my) moral judgment. ;D :D
