The spring trends are out. Here are the highlights...

K104 back with a fury! Number one again.

KPLX takes a big tumble and KSCS is right on their heels.

KVIL continues to slide. We'll see how they do with less competition.
______________

Man that was a hard trend to read. At first glance it's difficult to see where the losers lost ground. Wolf down almost a full point, KSCS flat, Twister up 2 tenths so the Wolf isn't being brought down by ABC.

Anybody with Midday/PM drive breakouts care to share what the Cody/Amy B switch has done? Most people I've talked to don't have a positive review of that switch.

The right-wing yakkers are losing some steam with WBAP down another half point and KLIF down 2 tenths.

Left wing talk fares much worse with KXEB holding steady at a half a share. An EBS tone has higher ratings than that.

Any more than this and I'm bound to rehash old news.
Edited by bluescreen on 08/26/05 05:05 AM.

Re: Be Careful!

Be careful posting actual shares, Bluescreen. The moderators don't like that. That's why I didn't not post them.

And, yeah if you combine "The Twister" and KSCS, ABC is beating KPLX.

Hell, I'm too dumb to post this just once ... you get it twice.

"Batman RETURNS" ... I guess.

As Robert Redford said in "Spygame", "It feels good to break a rule now and then."

But then Arbitron informtion is copyrighted ... so.

Below are the Radio-info.com rules:

This is NOT a First Amendment zone. Radio-info sets the boundaries since it is their board.

The following types of messages are not permitted (posts which violate these rules will be removed without notice to you):

Messages containing personal attacks, slanderous material, and similar nonsense.

"Spam" or other blatant advertising.

Any copyrighted data. This includes articles from most newspapers, trade publications, and Arbitron ratings (including 12+ ratings). Copying and pasting ratings from a site which has an Arbitron license is forbidden.

In addition, Arbitron does not allow linking to sites, even licensed sites (for example, R&R Online) which contain ratings information. From what we understand, it is acceptable to post rankings (i.e., KWNR is #1 12+ in Las Vegas).

Off-topic posts. All posts should directly relate to the broadcasting industry.

Complaints regarding the moderation or administration of Radio-Info. Generic questions should be directed to the 'Ask Radio-Info' forum, however direct concerns relating to moderation/administration should be handled via email with the person responsible for that section of the site.

Posts across multiple boards or multiple posts on the same board.

A public service announcement ... from The Batman

There's what, at least one thread here in the Dallas board full of personal attacks?

What I meant was The Wolf's drop isn't due to anything ABC is doing with KSCS being flat and Twister up marginally. Work for ABC? Wolf probably took an 18-34 hit from KHKS and that Amy B/Cody switch was suicide.

A one-time K104 hater, I'm now having to eat my words. This station is hot! They are playing so much new music, I can't even keep up with everything. It's refreshing not to hear the same ol' 10 songs over and over. The mixshows are right on point also. I give you your props Skip Cheathum. You have finally scored a 100 with me.

Roger Wimmer who writes the "Research Doctor" column on AllAccess has a simple formula for success in life.

· Find out what the people want.
· Give it to them.
· Tell them that you gave it to them.

Whatever happened to in-depth, in-market research to identify what the listeners in DFW want to hear, and then giving it to them (then tell them that you gave it to them)? The answer is Consolidation and slashing budgets to try and raise the bottom line (read: stock price). What we have now is the result of a lot of snake-oil salesmen, I mean consultants, steering the ship. What do we get? Just turn on your radio and enjoy;)

We get a once great classic rock station (KZPS) that is essentially ruined by a series of corporate decisions (too numerous to regurgitate here), and it's kissing cousin KDGE suffering the same fate.

We get the demise of KEGL, the birth and death of Sunny 97.1, and the cloning of an Hispanic format (why not, they opine, nothing else is working and those Hispanic broadcasters and being successful). We get the Twister, launched not to be a successful station, but to siphon off audience from sister KSCS' nemesis The Wolf. We become the only major market without a successful News station (poor, poor pitiful KRLD).

That's my two cents for this scorching Friday in August.

Man your keyboards...

Again, the consultants, the owners, are real estate agents, not broadcasters.
