I'm pissed off at he local media when it comes to reporting the radio biz. The NY Daily News cut back to four columns per week. The NY Post has nothing. Crain's NY is ok. I have some free time, I'm going to do my best to give you guys some radio-info. (lol)
WFAN is trying out John Franco (former NY Mets closer) on the weekends. John is a smart dude. He went to St. Johns Univ. But the guy should take a speech course. Every ten seconds he blurts out..."you know". I have the same problem. I'm trying to watch myself. Memo to John: Get with the program.
Last week I spoke to WFAN PD Eric Spitz. Spitz said he din't pick that up. We hear he may listen to airchecks of John.
Back in August after the crap hit the fan with Chris Russo leaving the FanCave...Big Mike Francesa told us when he comes back from vacation in September, he would have a "new show". No co-host but a few new voices. Still waiting for the "new show".
If I was in charge of WFAN this is what I would do....Craig Carton is not well liked if you read the local papers. I would keep Boomer in AM drive. Add Brian Whitman for comedy. I think Whitman could help out Boomer. When Brandon Tierney's contract expires at WEPN, make a play for him. Add him to the AM drive show. "Boomer, Brandon & Brian...the killer Bees!". Midays with Evan Roberts and Sid Rosenberg..."Roberts & Rosenberg". Sid would have to clean up his image. Listeners like Sid. Tell Francesa he needs a co-host. Team Francesa with Joe Benigno..."Mike & Joe". Joe with Mike would be fantastic. Think about it.
I've been contacting NYC PDs at random and asking Pds if they read message boards. If they read them, which ones. WFAN's Spitz was very candid. He reads NYRMB from time to time. He was not aware of this fine radio site...so I spread the word.
Monday I spoke with my "birdie" in the WCBS-FM Programming Department. He doesn't read radio message boards. Folks will send him links to radio boards if CBS-FM is mentioned. My contact was aware of radio-info. I asked this little "birdie" if Max Kinkel would do another "radio great" shift? Maybe down the road. He states Max had very low ratings when he did it. Only other jock with lower #s was Bobby Jay. Interesting.
I've been palying phone tag with WINS PD Mark Mason to ask him a few questions. He will back back from vacation on Monday. I tried to get in contact with Tom Poleman from Clear Channel NY. Still waiting for a call back.
It so sad that WPLJ's Scott Shannon got soft on the air. He was on top of his game from 1983 to 1988. I can't listen to Scott & Todd. I enjoyed Scott with Ross Britain and J.R. Nelson. Speaking about Ross, per About Radio, he did reports for CNN while he worked at Z-93/Atlanta. I never knew that.
Uncle Mel keeps on spending cash. Sirius XM went crazy with full page ads in all the local papers last week. Nice ads for Mad Dog Russo.

Mega dittos!
