Star 102.5 has officially flipped to all Christmas music. I think it’s a little to early
In a "normal" year, I'd agree with you. But this year, I think people are so tired of what we've been through and are still going through, that they are looking for some "comfort music." There's nothing better than traditional Christmas music for that.Star 102.5 has officially flipped to all Christmas music. I think it’s a little to early
They have done this before. The regular format is disposable, so it really doesn't matter. I don't know if it benefits them in terms of revenue. Xmas music hasn't boosted their ratings like stations in PPM markets.
It gives programming two months off. Just recycle past playlists and put on shuffle. The content is irrelevant anyway. It's like a Hallmark Xmas movie. It's only for people who want the "Mood of the Season"...
Nonetheless, the Christmas modification of the format is actually just an adaptation to the particular moment. While it seems like a change in format, it actually is an enhancement from the perspective of the listeners.
And advertisers go crazy for the environment. It is made to sell.
The fact is that AC stations are not "disposable" because so many millions of listeners nationally prefer them. It's obvious that AC is not your preference, and it's not intended to be. It targets 25-54 women, the biggest ad specification out there. For that group, the format is just as good as alt rock or classic hits or classic rock or country or r&b or jazz or whatever is for others.
We have a Spanish saying that is "different colors for different tastes" (para los gustos se hicieron los colores). Just because you don't like AC does not mean the format is "disposable" or "irrelevant". To people who like the music, both the AC during the year and the Christmas favorites during the season, that is a great radio station. Same goes for all the AC stations that do that, from Seattle to Savannah.
Nothing else truly embodies the spirit of Christmas like advertisers. Hucksters selling junk to people who can't afford it. Max out those credit cards and bliss out to "Jingle Bell Rock" or "Feliz Navidad" 15 times a day.!
As you said "It's made to sell". No more trips to crowded malls. Amazon will deliver all your stuff COVID free...

Someone would have to be braindead to not want to vomit after hearing almost 2-months worth of Christmas music.
Have you ever worked in retail?

I think November 12th is the best time to go all Christmas, but maybe Star fears that someone else will go All Christmas before that time if they don't.
Clear as day, what's going on is that Star wants to be Buffalo's FIRST All Christmas radio station long before anyone else.
