Well, it would be interesting to see what happens with Star. I personally think he'd be awesome right after Imus on a talk station. Think about this, a talk station featuring Imus in the morning, Star middays, O&A drivetimes....? Would sure bring back the younger demos to AM radio. 8)

Imus could act like he did at NBC.

O&A are toast.

wonder if the FCC will get many applications for new LPTV stations on tv6--87.7 fm now? from people trying to do what TV6 is doing in NYC. its all rather humorous!

Also, one wonders if you write "Channel 6" in the Arbitron diary, if 87.7 FM gets the credit!

That's a good question about TV6/fm87.7! but likely TV6/fm 87.7 is about making $$$$-----not about ratings. ( how about this--- I'd like people on long island to enter am740-WNYH into their diaries! have you heard that joke of a station? I heard a doctor owns it. glad he's not my doctor! )

The proprietor of Channel 6 is a company called Island Broadcasting. They also own a bunch of UHF low power stations in the area. Channel 34, 39, etc. All of these run leased-access programming.

I believe they also own low-power channels 44 and 54, the L.I./Brooklyn "local access" tandem then-owned (probably still is) by some guy named Jim Chladek.

And to tie this thread into a big ol' bow, 44/54 in the early 90's used to air a hip-hop heavy video request show called "American Hot Video". (Except for that one time they actually honored some viewer's request to air a video with "skateboarding" in it so they played "Free Fallin'".) And of course, you had to call a 900 number to request videos... the same 900 number you'd use to talk to the psychics that filled the other odd hours of the stations' schedule...

I hear the Pulse on 87.7 is bringing them back!! LOL!! WOW!! Good for them if they bring back The Star and Buc Wild show in the morning!! "Put the nail in the coffin" as Star would say, on Hot 97 and Power 105.1... Miss Jones on Hot 97 is SOOOOO Wack!!! Their Jokes make me want to vomit how corny they are! Ed Lover on Power 105.1, good dude but he don't stand a chance! LMAO! Smart man Star!.... Star's Morning show is going to make all those sponsors pull out on the big giants!! Good for those radio stations who's Program Directors are into politics and don't give the real talent the time of day! They are the reason why I put together a pirate radio station back in 1994 and 1995. At that time Hot 97 was the only Hip Hop station in NYC and they were the target because of their payola problems. Hot 97's Program Director and Music Director would only hook up those they know and those who would pay them off. Now we have both Hot 97 and Power 105.1 who are in CONTROL and they are both doing the same things. Good for them both!! I hope to see them both crash!! For those of you who don't know about DJ CINTRONICS, Look me up at www.myspace.com/cintronics or www.djcintronics.com There you can see the I Team UPN9 news report they did when I had my Pirate Radio Station..

"Pulse 87" will have a long way to go if they want to battle (Hot 97)Emmis & (Power 105.1, Z-100, KTU)Clear Channel.
The Miss Jones Show is H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E !!!! Ed Lover is cool but his show is boring. He is doing the same show he did on
Hot 97 back in 1994. Star & Bucwild will definitely beat them both in the morning drive slot. However who is going to be
on the air after 10am. Will "Pulse 87" pick up some familar New York radio voices. Air Personalities & mixshow Dj's.
hopefully they will. The playlist is suppose to be diverse mix of Hip-Hop, Rock, Dance, Classics & R & B according to the
press conference. I guess we will find out on Jan 15th

100 percent true! If the Pulse wants to really smash those stations they are on the right track with Star and Buc wild! If the Pulse wants to keep things going after 10 am and keep smashing, they need to contact me! DJ Cintronics The Outlaw of the Airwaves and I will be more then happy to smash Flex and the garbage DJ Clue on power 105.1... Much respect to Flex but DJ Clue is trash! Pulse you see this post GET AT ME! ;D

By the way, if I was the program director of Hot 97, I would take Funk Master Flex, team him up with Big Dennis Rivera and Miss Info in the morning. That would be the only way Hot 97 would maintain control in the morning if Star returns to the NYC airwaves.. Ever since they moved Dennis to 10am Flex lost alittle steam at night.. Dennis and Flex together are good with each other. If Hot 97 were smart they would go that route.. Miss Jones and DJ Envy are the worst morning show.. Woppi WAS number one on the worst list but they got rid of her.. LOL

Looking at it from a rational point of view, I don't think this 87.7FM thing is going to make a dent in the top-40 ratings.
First of all, they have a piss poor dial position -- all the way at the END of the scale. Second of all, they are low-power compared to Z-100. Reception is going to be bad in Manhattan and near to non-existent in New Jersey. I also wonder about Staten Island...

That's a huge chunk of the NYC metro that won't be able to hear this new station, while they can tune in Z-100 with no problems.

I don't know what led 87.7 to move away from the Russian pop music format....it seemed like a smart niche (and was superserving a large part of New York City's ethnic population). They had exclusivity with that formula.

You have a point BUT it will put a Dent on NYC, you watch! Most people who listen in the morning are people who listen in their car radios.. Yes its true the signal is weak but in the car its not so bad.. Radio is sooooooo boring in the morning! I think Star on a weak Station in NYC will lead to other things for him.. Star is a smart guy and he knows what he's doing.. As far as Pulse they will only make alittle noise for a short time until the Big guys give in to the King of the Hip Hop morning show Star! LMAO

Stephanie, I'm not so sure that's as much of an issue as people are saying. I've picked it up loud and clear in both Manhattan and North Jersey, on a car radio that's not much more selective than the average.

Although I must confess I'm going to miss the Best of the '80's in Russian ...
