Star Announcement at 3PM

To me if feels more like a variety hits station with the “you never know what we’ll play next” moniker playing all the time. This is typically used on variety hits stations. But I guess the mostly classic upbeat hits make it Rhythmic AC.

Star 94 playing Hip-Hop and R&B? Never in a million years! I actually like the new upbeat format. The voiceovers are definitely dry and dull as heck! Now please not have a playlist with tons of reputation. It’ll be nice to hear some mixshow DJs fire up the airwaves on the weekends.

Anyone else think this is kind of a bad idea? I mean, it seems like everytime a station tries rhythmic-AC, it always morphs into something else within a year. Even KTU in New York didn't stay rhythmic-AC for very long. Then iHeart Atlanta tried this format on WWVA "105-7 The Groove" and it quickly shifted to Rhythmic/CHR in no time. Of course, that was on a far weaker signal from Canton… 20kw I think. But now... rhythmic-AC on full power signal? Unless I'm missing something, I just don't know.

Jam'n 107.5 in Portland has done really well with a similar format.

What is the announcement for when they are already saying "New"?. A few throwbacks to some songs I like, but overall it is still a girl/woman skewed station..Not impressed, Oh well.

They're disproportionately the impulse buyers, the free spenders, the fad followers, the easy targets for advertisers. Or at least that is the perception that drives the ad biz and, thus, radio.

I noticed that WSTR still playing currents, so at least they’ve kept it balanced and not being recurrent-driven like most Rhythmic ACs.

107.5 in Portland is throwback hip-hop and R&B, not Rhythmic AC.

There are some similarities, by Rhythmic AC generally devotes a far lower percentage of on-air spins to hip-hop and includes more pure pop music (Star 94 plays the Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5, and Madonna).

It’s definitely different in terms of mix and yes, I like how it’s not recurrents only and they still have new stuff. Wished TOSOTR would mix in some new stuff.

On another note, the signal sucks this evening in Carrollton. I’m getting everything else okay. Even have 100.5 coming in about as good as normal but 94.1 is not listenable. Interference with weather changing or could it be the stations is at reduced power? I’ll check again tomorrow

I don't see how this format lasts more than twelve months. Yes, it's different from old Star, but this isn't sustainable. There's a lot of "oh wow" that the audience will grow tired of after a few months. There is also no way there was any music research applied to this station.

And if they are keeping Jenn Hobby (mistake) and Kannon, why weren't they on the air yesterday? Friday morning with a new format and they had an awful part timer just doing traffic. You have one shot at getting new cume to be interested in this station, the whole thing needs to be ready to go when you push the button. Jocks should all be in place and on the air, they should be live all weekend but it's just automated songs and imaging. This sounds like a lame Spotify playlist.

The 700th relaunch of this station and it is yet another disaster.

Hey… so I noticed the voice-over guy is the same one Q100/99.7 used for YEARS! Made Q sound dull as well. Can't think of his name… I've heard him on other stations before.

Totally agree....

If they test and "burn and turn" the playlist the way Cox does with River and B then it could have legs.

I actually like much of Jeff Berlin's work - he sounds great on rock radio - but he's probably not the best fit for a Rhythmic AC voice.

IMHO: First impressions are important, but I will bet a cup of Burger King regular coffee that over half of the potential P1 audience has not sampled 94.1 yet. If they wanted to create a "buzz" they would have done the 5,000 commercial free song "stunt". Also some billboards and or Marta Bus wraps could be good. I can only guess this flip had less than a month in planning. I agree the air staff should be in place. That is why I like the 5000 song stunt. If give you several extra days to find talent and teach them how to use you VT system.

I personally have been part of a couple of format flips. I was lucky enough to survive them. I personally question any "hint' for a flip that will change the P1 listeners. The station is saying that they are not "important" and we are play music for somebody else. They will not stick around for the new format.

If the music is "right' Star will do okay despite questionable on air staff.
