Stars 97.3 Stunting

I'm putting my money on it being a "Jack" or a "Bob" or similar variety hits. That would explain the wide array of music playing during the stunt.

Probably won't know till Monday.

Yes indeed, it's a show tunes Saturday! ;D

Well, at least that's more interesting than a Jack, or Bob, or whatever format.

My RDS currently reads "YES ?"

Could be a Bob FM format. I don't think they'd bring Jack branding back since it failed on 105.3. Why bring a name to Lubbock that failed the first time? I know there is a Bob in Midland. I have no idea how good it does down there. I know Bob failed in Abilene.

Could be alternative/rock in an attempt to compete with FMX perhaps?

Or another thought could be a relaunch? (Perhaps new branding with a more softer playlist, like Lite 97.3 or Sunny 97.3? Or maybe they'll just drop the "S" on stars and call themselves Star 97.3 ;D ;D)

Just some thoughts. If they change formats completely, it would be interesting to see what station around here (if any) would take up the "Adult Contemporary" format.

It's a stunt; stunts usually don't allude to the new format. Only the Moran family truly knows...

You don't think every song being a "yes" song means the new format will involve the word 'yes?'

It could but not necessarily. When 93.3 in Dallas flipped to i93, they ran clips of songs from different formats. Constantly they would say "legends" in between the songs. Making it sound like it was going to be an oldies station or something. But turned out to be another top 40 station.

Anything is possible. The new 97.3 format to launch on Monday probably? I wish they'd give us a time to tune in to hear the flip. All it says on the station ID at the top of the hour is to "Stay tuned for something new..."

I don't think so, but it might. I have no inside information. In the past, station owners around the nation have used stunting as a time to either have some fun, try to fool competitors or potential competitors, or some combination. Perhaps the new station will be known as 'Yes 97.3', but that would be silly (imo). Perhaps there's some question we missed (and the answer is... ;))

Maybe Ramar will follow Merlin and CBS, and put FM News on 97.3 in Lubbock. I know they tried to simulcast KJTV AM in the past; will they try again? Maybe they will fill the Hot AC (or a modern AC variation) void left by KMMX's shift to CHR in lieu of its underperforming AC history. Maybe they will bring alternative or modern rock to Lubbock, but I doubt it. Maybe they will bring an adult hits format back to the South Plains, but that's doubtful too since Jack FM didn't fare all that well.

Let's hear everyone else's guess as to what the new station format will be! It'll be fun like a game. I'm guessing Eggs.. is correct in that the new format will likely debut Monday or sometime soon.

Any guesses? Perhaps a Hot AC. Seems like a drastic move to blow the whole thing up if they're going to just transition from AC to Hot AC. They could've done what Mix did and just made a transitional statement and made the switch. Who knows? In my 5 or so years in Lubbock it seems Ramar has switched things up more than anybody. Magic (and 950) seem are the only safe signals over there.

That would be my guess. Something like Mix 1029 in Dallas perhaps. In all honesty, I think Ramar made the right decision to wipe the slate clean on this one. With a new branding, people will know something is up and it might make them listen for a little bit.

The name "Yes" does sound silly to me, however. But I've heard sillier. Go to Albuquerque and tune to "omg! 106.7." Better it be "Yes," than omg, lol, or lmao radio.

On a side note, thanks Ramar for using the last day of stunting as a tribute to our fallen heroes. I was beginning to wonder why they were scheduling a format flip around a 9/11 remembrance weekend instead of Labor Day. Now I know.

i wouldn't expect anything drastic(they just want to keep doing basically the SAME thing cheaper, if a canned format is availible they will probably go for it) i think they are convinced they can win 18-24's, the same way obama is convinced the same crap he's been doing for over 2 years will fix the economy and create jobs. does anybody want to put their money on either of them? Yawn ::)

sorry bout that, it should have come out 18-34's. i just remembered, they've linked up with tom kent's syndicated 70's & 80 weekend show and it has been on for a couple of weeks, they could surprize me and go Classic Hits, which might make sense because kent has a full lineup of air talent (as of a couple of weeks ago) to go 24/7 on the bird. in which case, i would be right about 1 thing....goin' cheap.
