State College Top 5

I'm relatively new to town and have a great interest in radio. I would love to know the best places to listen for interesting and talented jocks. So in your words who are the top five and where they work. Please don't use this as an advertisement for your station or your friends and please don't put yourself on the list

I have noticed that plenty of people have read this thread yet noone is replying. Did I ask something inappropriate or just something that everyone is afraid to answer?

Here are my top picks in station order:1. WOWY 97.1 -- All Jocks2. WALY 103.9 -- Rog, KC, Bill, Real Deal3. 3WZ 95.3 -- Grant Armstrong4. 96.5 KEY -- Michaels, Wolfe, Steele, Baker5. The Bus 93.7 -- Dave Shannon

Just in case refthree is under the age of seventy let me give him a younger list:1. Chris and Jim 105.9 The Buzz2. Jim Rome 1450 WMAJ3. Jeff Brown 93.7 The Bus4. Jerry Valeri and Troy Craig 98.7 Qwk Rock5. Dangerboy 103.1 Hot 103

A YOUNGER list?!?! With the exception of Number 5, no one on 2, 3 or 4 is under 30 years old, Chris and Jim are in their 30's approaching 40 and all of them appeal to a 35 an older crowd (with exceptions of course).

BTW, I'm the older guy (and no, I'm not anywhere near or over 70 ;)) who used to be "Radioraven" but with the changes, I couldn't retrieve what I needed, so I figured I'd just use my name ;D, Which is why I asked the fella if he was just interested in music radio. Most talk show hosts start out as jocks and they all have music radio jock in their blood anyway. Here are my Top 5:1. WRSC - Kevin Nelson2. WBLF - Jeff Byers when I get a chance to listen to sports3. WOWY - Don Anthony on the weekends4. The Bus - Dave Shannon5. Hot 103 - Glen Turner

I don't think there are really any stand-out younger jocks in the market. Several jocks listed can't speak clearly. If you're going to include Rome, you might as well include Rush, O'Reilly, and Glenn Beck. I've always liked Jackie Flick from WUBZ. AJ Waters from Rocky 99 in Johnstown is pretty good.

I don't know how you can say that there aren't any younger stand outs when State College seems to be full of them these days. All you need to do is listen to stations like Hot, Qwk, The Buzz, and even the Bus. Guys like Fish at the Buzz, Tony at the Bus, and the Qwk Rock guys all have that younger sound that reaches out to a market. It is sad for you to dismiss real talent when it's better than it's been in years. It must be scary to be that out of touch

I don't think I'm the one that's out of touch. The talent was much better and deeper in years past. Some of the guys you mentioned are fine, but I wouldn't call them stand-out. I don't know how you can. They are basically vanilla. Because you have a "younger sound" doesn't make you a strong or unique talent. There isn't a station in this market that impresses me, and certainly there isn't a fresh, stand-out talent that impresses me.

Wow! None? Well, I like talk radio, especially local talk radio and the morning show on WRSC impresses the hell out of me. Kevin Nelson, and sometimes Dave Shannon, have me spitting my coffee every morning. These guys have been at for so long. And the instincts Kevin Nelson has are incredible. The guy is not only funny and witty but he can definitely think on his feet. But, as a long time listener, I've gotten accustomed to the humor and style. To each his own.

Who listed 96.5 & WALY in their Top 5? Can't even hear 'em in State College. 1. Grant Armstrong, 3WZ--best pipes in the market; a major league jock. 2. Jeff Brown, The Bus--great voice; relaxed, funny--another major leaguer. 3. Chris & Jim, The Buzz--solid rock radio act... medium-market potential (can't see 'em getting to LA). 4. Glen Turner, Hot--solid jock... may be getting a little old for the format (not his fault). 5. Gary Sinderson, 3WZ--a funny SOB; keeps the "morning zoo" act moving.

I was actually thinking about the younger, up-and-coming folks, but that didn't translate into my post, sorry. I think the original question was about the younger jocks.

I cast my vote for Jason Jackson on the only station in State College "That Really Gets It" (I love that commercial, who cares if it's 3 years old). I once saw someone post that on an AC station - you always put your best jock on middays because of the office listening. You can learn so much stuff reading these boards. Anyone have any old airchecks of Jeff Mock, I'd buy you lunch on the 32nd of the month for one. I think I saw Delilah in Giant the other night buying a case of Oreo's, she's not bad - but no JJ.

Real State College Top 5: 1. Bob & Tom2. Bob & Sheri (Sherry?) (Cheri?) 3. Rush/Sean/Bill--aren't they really all the same guy? 4. Leeza Gibbons5. Delilah Local Radio Rulz!

i've always thought grant was one of the top talents in the area. 3wz puts much effort into their product and it shows. the last time i was in the area i was very impressed with what i heard on wowy. nick, mike, and don are great guys...and excellent personalities...but i was most impressed with the music mix. the library has changed since it was a forever station--i enjoyed the additions.or course people who know me, realize that i would rank smooth jazz as one of the top stations...too bad there are no local personalities on it. as for local stations...i would rank 3wz at the top. bob and sheri ruin the lite for me. i prefered tom twine.

call me we have trade at Bob' Burger Barn and we'll give you the 5 cent tour.

1. Chris and Jim (WUBZ)2. Fish (WUBZ)3. Jerry Valeri (QWK)4. Tony Ricciardi (BUS)5. Troy Craig (QWK)honorable mention to Jackie Flick on WUBZ
