Station Vs. Station

DavidEduardo said:
Speaking personally, A is quite the winner. B has some nice things, but a few I don't ever want to hear (Dean Martin is one) and several I would not want to hear more than once a year or so.

Oh come on.....a few "stiffs" won't hurt.... :D

Well, apparently not.... like during special weekend programming. K*LUV/Dallas/Ft. Worth is playing #1's from 1964 to 1979 in alphabetical order, starting at 9AM (cdt) Saturday!! I know this because I'll be kicking it off. You'd be surprised how many former number one's are total stiffs today. Should be fun!

I'll take station B all day....why the surprise with Ya,Ya..it was his biggest hit #7..or am I misunderstanding your ...

The  's are for surprised plays, those are songs that just simply aren't played anymore.
I's been awhile since I've Seen Dean Martin, Lee Dorsey, and the DC 5 played.

All of them are pretty good songs too.

It does seem a tad bit odd that The Turtles were played almost exactly 30 minutes apart on Station B.
bravo

I'll have to check this one out. Good to see that radio is still doing big specialties like this. Make sure "Honey" ('68) is not skipped, or "Billy Don't Be a Hero" ('74)... :D

Too bad pre 64's or 50's music is being left out.

Reminds me of K-Earth 101 doing a similiar thing in the mid 1980's. They would play every KHJ #1 song in chronological order from January 1955 thru 1984 over Labor Day Weekend. But in 1989, that all ended. PD change I believe or song licensing issues?? I was not a happy camper. But those were the days indeed!

I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.

Music licensing for terrestrial stations does not dictate playlists; it's just a percentage for the authors and composers.

Key to why that feature ended, mercifully, is the four digit string "1955" and nothing eles.

Mercifully? Sounds like you dislike specials. Actually, you DO dislike specials.....to you, it's just "stiffs".

Actually, that #1 hits weekend back then, is what got me into oldies music and radio.

If I recall, they began with "Let Me Go Lover" by Joan Weber (pre-rock & roll), but remember this was the mid 80's, so that song was 30 years old. Gosh, how time flies!

Toxic waste.

You're being kind.

No, I'm just embarrassed... I actually liked that song at one time. And error of youth... a minor peccadillo.

If you have 3 stations in town playing this kind of music, consider yourself fortunate.

In that vein ...#1's in chono special show,i would listen...because It is a historical and a visual of the evolution of music as the years go by.....as a matter of fact I created a series of cd's for my reunion gigs 1955-1980 every #1 in chono order......

Philadelphia's WOGL is doing a #1's weekend, A to Z from 1960 through the 80's. From what I can tell, nothing is being skipped. "Sukiyaki" was played recently. Sounds great!! Might be the best countdown out there, besides WCBS.

KRTH is doing a double play weekend, two songs in a row by the same artist.
Dallas is doing a #1's, but only at the top of each hour.

Great idea. There was a show in the UK on BBC in the early 90s where they presented every single number 1 record in order from the UK & US from 1955 through 1990. Great listening.

the uk charts are pretty cool to compare to the Billboard hot 100, it gives you a fresh look at the charts we are familiar with. a new spin on the music (Pun intended).

What song is sadder than "Honey"

maybe ...."Patches" or "Runnung Bear" or "Teen Angel"
