Stations Banning The Script's "Breakeven"?

It's pretty amazing that there's more stations banning "Breakeven" than banned George Michael's "I Want Your Sex" back in 1987.

Same with "Sheena Easton's "Sugar Walls".
There's plenty of other tunes out there that religous people jump on & interpret them as "evil" without bothering to have an open mind or look at the lyrics of the whole thing. Perfect Example-"I Want a New Drug"-Huey Lewis. ::)

If I was religious I wouldn't consider the Script lyric being edited to be evil. Instead I would look at it as opportunity. If the non-believer's prayer happens to come true they might start believing in God and the power of prayer.

Or they might just look at it as the law of averages. You pray enough times you're bound to get one right. both the Top forty WSTQ Streator Illinois/WIVQ Spring Valley Illinois and hot AC WAJK La Salle Illinois play "Breakeven" unedited.

I heard stories that in 1974 some stations beeped out (literally with a beeping sound) the word "bitch" in Elton John-The Bitch Is Back. It would seem easier not to play the song at all than to go through that much trouble..to the point of destroying the song since the word comes up so often.

Speaking of which, I wonder if any of these stations editing "Breakeven" are also editing or banning Elton John's "Levon", where he sings "the New York Times says God is dead" (which never actually happened, BTW).

Anybody who is so touchy about lyrics that they'd censor "Breakeven" has no business running a CHR station. They should go run an easy listening station that plays all instrumentals.

(Radio used to realize this, which is why CHR's in conservative markets used to not be as censorious as one would expect.)

BPM the dance channel on Sirius surprising to me plays it unedited F>>K YOU and the DJs even anouce the song with the f bomb.. Im really surprised at that.. But anyway I mentioned before that I didnt like the song, but I had only heard it once... I really like this Jam now.

Whats the big surprise here? The most popular Satellite station, Howard 100, is notoriously known for being uncensored :)

Its not the song being unedited that surprised me,, its the DJs mentioning the song and them saying F.ck the surprises me. Im actually for unediting on the sat channels. I guess the reason hits one edits it is because more families and kids listen to this channel than they would BPM,, though sadly BPM is basically just a REMIX version of CHR with about 20 percent true dance hits.. Luckily we have Area, and that channel is B.tchin..... ;)

I actually heard some of Sirius XM over the weekend since I visited a friend that recently installed it. I have to say XM is awesome... IMO, I think BPM, HITS 1, Area and The Heat are the best channels on there. I wish there was a way I could stream the XM channels on my PC without have to pay...

I was somewhat surprised that NRJ/France plays a "Forget You" version of this song. Maybe Europe is less uptight about nudity than the U.S but not profanity? Maybe they consider it too crude and vulgar. I'm not sure what version the other European CHRs are playing. I think it's a great song no matter what edit I hear.

I am surprised on any European station editing it since it isnt their official language.. I remember years back I heard alot of F bombs on Radio FG Paris... Snoop Dog-Drop it like its hot comes to mind.
