Stations That Need A New Format

Snap 94.1-I like some of the music they play but the format is just strange and doesn't work in this area

98.1 The Max-They started off contending they wanted to compete with Rock 103, now they can't decide if they want to be a classic rock station or a new rock station. It turns both types of fans off.

98.9 Kim FM-It is too close on the dial and too similar to FM 100 to make any noise at all.

94.1 - Definitely needs to be the country contender to 105.9.

98.1 - Please settle on an Outlaw format and stick with it, OK??? You are not the competitor to 102.7 you wanted to be.

98.9 - Finally finding its niche. Much better than 99.7 or 104.5. The playlist is being tweaked enough to keep me tuned in.

102.7 - The staff change is the last gasp at being a classic rock station in Memphis. 98.1 has/had the opportunity to take the lead but hasn't.

In your opinion, who's in-need of a format change?

Thanks,

Haven't we been down this road before Mr Begin? Truth be told, about half a dozen stations in Memphis need a format change.....but it ain't happening!

Did I miss the part about the check being in the mail?

One of them needs to become the all Hannah Montana station. Though, when you think about it, 1430 isn't that far off.

As an aside... I got my 8-year-old 4 tickets to Hannah Montana yesterday at face value, making me The Best Daddy in the World.

I have some extra mountain breathing gear if you need it.

I am not sure I need that, but I am bringing my climbing harness.

I actually LOVE "Snap 94.1". I don't live in the area (I live in East Tennessee near Knoxville), but I listen to Snap online all the time. I wish we had a really good rhythmic AC format like that here. I love the fact that it is "pop" focused and not too urban leaning. But knowing the Memphis market, that's probably why it isn't working there. If it isn't urban it just doesn't seem to work in Memphis. However, the current FM dial lineup in Memphis is the first one in a long time that I've actually liked. I always hated driving through the area because it was nothing but urban, country or rock on the dial. (There wasn't much pop or hit music to be found). But over the past few years, Memphis has gotten a mainstream CHR ("Q107.5"), a rhythmic AC ("Snap 94.1"), and a good Hot AC ("Kim 98.7"). Wow!! Finally some HIT music on the air instead of 15 hip hop and gospel stations. I know that's probably why none of these stations is setting the woods on fire in the ratings with the locals, but personally, they sure suit my tastes better and I really like the Memphis radio dial much more now than in the past.

I must agree Snap isn't that bad, very eclectic style and it takes that type of taste to listen to it..Most people have ipods or mp3 players with a wide variety of songs just like that station and the music on snap 94.1 is about similar to any other Rhythmic AC station in the country, if not better with the addition of mix jocks and upbeat personalities on air. I wouldn't personally flip them anytime soon, they still have some running ground, but the key is will Memphis catch on to them in time (good luck with that) ... Kim FM is a mystery, strong selling point- their notable local warm ANNOUNCERS, not much else..can't really listen to them too long with out loosing interest musically, but wouldn't flip them yet either though..Time will tell them fate of those two newbies..

Can't speak much for the AM dial but I would flip Rock 103...the latest CC massacre was the final straw for a station that hasn't been a top performer in a LOOONNG time.. Every other station is fairly holding its own and probably wouldn't get changed regardless of what the "general consensus" turns out to be.

Soooo...ummm... what would you flip it to?

Ask me a few months back I would'nt be saying this, but....
Country prehaps? CC has a few country properties, the company isn't very programming savvy but with their coporate $$$ maybe they could give Kix some comp..

How about a format change (and ownership change as well) for 1380 and 1600?
Would definitely agree with the ownership change. Absentee out-of-town lawyers should not own radio stations.

And neither should a group that claims to be "Christian" but their god (little "g") is really the almighty dollar. :-\

I've been gone for a week, so I'm just now seeing this, but I thought I'd tell you that their ownership is actually Jewish! ::) ;D Go figger! ;D

Did you ever think that since we already have a country station (and several rock stations at that) that might bore the audience? Those thoughts are what is killing radio. The mentality is about taking listeners away from a pre-existing station rather than creating something new.

With that being said, another i-pod is sold.
