Stations That Need A New Format

How about a format change (and ownership change as well) for 1380 and 1600?

1600 will never change. F. W. Roberts is big in selling religious programs. They are co-owned with WNQM 1300 in Nashville & stations in Knoxville and New Orleans. They have put too much money into that 50 KW daytime signal, so don't look for that to happen ever, as long as F.W. Roberts owns it.

Not so fast, there. There was a former WMQM in Memphis as recently as the '80s. (I believe it was at 1480 on the dial, but I'm not sure.) They sold that one. Then when F. W. Robbert wanted to re-enter the Memphis market (2002), the WMQM call letters were still available, so they retook those. Then they also put WLRM on the air there (Millington). WLRM is not as powerful as WMQM, but apparently WMQM airtime is all sold out, so they are also able to sell "overflow" airtime over WLRM for those who couldn't get on WMQM, and obviously at a lower rate since WLRM is not as powerful.

And the name of the owner is indeed F. W. Robbert Broadcasting, and that is Robbert, singular, and with two "B"s. Not being nitpicky, just providing information for anyone who wants to google them.

how much do you think they would sell 1380 and 1600 for? how much are they worth? close to a million together?

Unfortunately I'm afraid if they did sell, all they would do would be to buy another station somewhere else and do the same thing they're doing now. :-\
