Stephanie Miller's Station Scorecard

Interesting how I heard the "talk master" the other day take a swipe at O'Reilly, something she seems powerless to resist like doing every 15 minutes.

In giving her listeners last week "some inside broadcasting information," she told her listeners that O'Reilly's show "was having trouble selling spots" and that advertisers weren't buying the show.

Oh my gosh.

A host who's near the bottom of the ratings "telling on" a major competitor.

Like there's a ton of national spots airing on her show? I hear a lot of PSAs and music fill, much like Rhandi Rhodes' show.

Kind of like the pot calling the keetle black.

Who cares if she swipes at O'reilly? I'm sure he can take it- and dish it too! Although you may hear a lot of PSA's and Music fills she is still on the air and Jone's is no idealogical business operation (unlike AAR). According to talkers she is 11th and O'Reilly is 7th. I hear lots of PSAs on WBZ and that is the #1 radio station in New England- doesn't mean much. The entire point of her program is to be critical of right wing talkers so the fact that she talks about right wing talkers all the time is not supring except to those who think they are listening to delilah.

Oh' try this for a laugh:

1.5 million listeners for Steph according to Talkers. Same goes for Lionel, Randi Rhodes and Thom Hartmann.

O'Reilly is tied with Ed Schultz at 3.25 million listeners.

Just to be accurate, so no one here accuses me of being partisan ( "He's dissing the Demo talkers!!" ), I get upset when Bill OH-Rye-Lee grumbles about leftist hosts. And I'm certainly not reluctant to go after Hannity.

Here's some of my defense of liberal hosts..

If you want your old account back, the folks in administration should be able to manually reset your account for you. I have no problem with you or anyone else who gives their opinion, but it seems a little odd to essentially call Miller the shrillest of the bunch because she's probably the most self-deprecating host out there. And all O'Reilly does is prattle on about "smear merchants" and the other people he claims targets him.

Yeah, but I don't hear O'Reilly insulting and taking shots at Limbaugh, Slanthead (Hannity), Beck, Miller, Schultz, Hartman, etc., every 15 minutes like Stephanie Miller does with Bill O.

A big part of her schtick is dissing other hosts. How appealing to listen to. Makes for real intelligent broadcasting.

It seems she and Keith Olberrman are obssessed or jealous as hell with their competition.

BTW, don't call me a Bill O. defender. I've taken my shots at him as well.

At least Bill ( and Big Ed Schultz ) will often say to a disagreeable host or caller, "You may be right about that."
I have never heard Hannity nor Stephanie Miller say anything similar. They know everything.

Miller is Drive Time. She's more Morning Zoo. Most tune to her on for the 5 minutes to 1 hour they are in the car driving to work. Most morning shows are fast with zingers going a mile a minute. Of course she going to take a few slam dunks. That's what her show is about.

As far as Bill O. He's no virgin at liberal tv/radio host bashing. He does it all the time.

She's supposed to go on 3WT in DC in November. I don't know what time slot, or if Clear Channel will drop her from WWRC, which is essentially powered by a gerbil in a wheel. 3WT is a nice 50kw.

Why would Bill O. take shots at people who agree with him? He used to fire at Franken and Olbermann until somebody (my guess) got to him and told him he was helping more than hurting.

A little critiquing is much needed in talk radio these days -- we need kids running around with needles puncturing the hot air balloons. Back in the day the occasional crank would get through and ask the host if he had Prince Albert in a can -- helping to disperse any pretensions of oracle status by the host. Guys like Neil Rogers and Bob Lassiter built their careers tearing their (mediocre) competition to shreds -- verbally, by name, on the air. Syndication (along with call screening improvements) has rendered the talk host Oz-like, immune from attack. Stephanie's potshots -- and the attention from groups like Media Matters -- is long overdue IMHO. Today's generation of talk "stars" carries a lot of undeserved ego. A taste of humility would serve them all well.

I got sick of reading post after post, so maybe this has been addressed, but the information on KPHX is very dated. Stephanie replaced Mike Newcomb who was ousted from his show and the company. Peter B. Collins pulled the plug when they moved him out of PMD. He said it wasn't worth it.
