Stern Gets Sirius with Bubba

Just earlier this morning, I heard Howard Stern say that he has hired Bubba the Love Sponge for one of his Sirius channels. While this news was kind of expected, it was also intriguing given that Bubba, in the past, was said to have not liked Howard. But Howard said that it was not about himself, but about how Bubba, like Howard, was a victim of the government.

Bubba was a victim of Bubba. Nobody but him to blame....

Where????? Puddin? MJ? Hillbilly heroin addict Limbaugh? Are you kidding? There is nothing left on "free" radio. Why do you think Howard is bailing? To be censor free, and free of stupid ass GM's who think they are programmers or talent. All the little leaguers will be in terrestrial radio in a few years and the real pros will be on satellite radio. Just like the best TV is HBO not ABC, CBS, FOX, or PAX.

>>Bubba will be lucky to make lunch money on Sirius.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about satellite radio pays more and is WAY more compelling than Glen Beck and the hypochristians. Howard is making half a billion dollars over five years not exactly lunch money. Bubba will be paid well too. The AM/FM dial will go the way of rabbit ears on the TV, it will be for those that can't afford satellite or cable.

Enjoy your "free" radio you might need that $10 a month for your lunch money enjoy McD's. The rest of us that can afford it will be listening to satellite and living in the 21st century.

Good Lord! Do you realize what this means? Howard Stern could get the credit for cleaning up terrestrial radio!

Re:Who cares? Satellite radio is a joke.

>>>Plenty of great (FREE) programming on the am/fm dial.<<<

ROTFLMAO!!!

i bought xm radio about two months ago and cannot believe how many light years better this is then local drek. i rarely if ever listen to local radio any longer. why?

once stern is gone, there really isn't a reason to listen to local radio. clear channel (among others) had done a wonderful job of making local radio as stale and lame as can be.

HBO has how many viewers compared to ABC, CBS, FOX? A bad night for NBC is five million viewers for a show. As to little leaguers, you must mean the people with HIGHER ratings than Howard Stern, like Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, etc. Hannity, while on satradio, still delivers huge numbers for OTA. I listen to Stern here and there as well, but unlike your peabodied mind, I don't believe he is the be-all and end-all. His exit will not collapse any medium. Just because you are a degenerate who has to listen exclusively to women talking about orgasms rather than venturing out to sample the entire radio band doesn't mean no one else does.

Your argument is lacking by the fact that you are forced to insult an entire religion and misspell "Glenn" Beck's name in the first place. Sorry that you can't understand humor or logic deeper than a breast egg roll toss.

Secondly, if you are the last moron to believe HOWARD STERN is getting $500 million, you truly should be forced to sit at the kids table at Thanksgiving for the rest of time. That cost is going to launch all of Howard's channels, pay the talent like Bubba their, as you claim, huge salaries, set up studios, etc. Howard will not be cashing a half-billion dollar check.

Sorry if I insinuated that you may be a "hypochristian" by accusing you of celebrating holidays.

Re: You are stupid

> HBO has how many viewers compared to ABC, CBS, FOX?

I didn't say more viewers, your reading comprehension is pretty low. The best TV is HBO. Who had more Emmy Nominations than HBO? HBO is in around 37 % of homes yet episodes of the Sopranos do beat some network TV. Network TV is vanilla and for all you lemmings that think Survivor is really a reality show and care about who is dating whom in Hollywood.

Who cares about the spelling of Beck's name who is a right wing tool for this moron in the White House. Watch Bill Maher's show from last night and listen to Bill and George Carlin during the episode that's humor. Beck is a hypocrite of the highest ilk with a horrible show that you sheep think is good.

> Read the SEC filing on www.thesmokinggun.com I know what Howard is getting. What you don't know is what Stern gets beyond that in his contract as bonuses. You are the one that beilieves a fairytale my friend. To quote Bill Maher "Jesus is an imaginary friend for adults."

One last question as everyone thought no one would pay for cable tv, currently who doesn't have cable tv or a satellite dish???

It's called niche programming dummy sat radio is setting up to be exactly like cable/sat tv. You won't need your local radio show anymore unless that $10 a month is too much for you. I've got XM and am going to add Sirius to be able to listen to Stern, Bubba, and all the sports and news talk on both. The $23 a month isn't going to bankrupt me.

Look for more rednecks to start carpooling, NOT to save money on GAS, but so everyone can "pitch in" on the subscription fee.

Remember when The Sopranos was the most profitable DVD sold in 2004?

Neither Limbaugh or Savage are on satellite radio.

Well there's Cowhead and Br...oh wait.

Well I know for a fact that Sirius is going to be watching this as carefully as any GM at any single station. There will be nothing stopping people from filing character assaut lawsuits agains Stern, Bubba, Mancow, and any of the other gentlemen working the shock shifts on Sat Radio. Mel Karmazin hates being sued as much as anyone in the business, and while he has some deep pockets now, his usual "just try me" attitude might make for some interesting fireworks at the McGraw Hill Building at Rock-Center..Additionally does this mean that Bubba will be moving to NYC? There is a new edict at Sirius that no longer permits out-of-building tracking. I think Spyder Harrison is grandfathered in, as was I, but I left the airshift at Sirius because (at the time) it was not very lucrative, and was very time consuming. They (Sirius) are very protective of thier Prophit System software and the number of "dongles" it has floating about. That's part of why they tossed me as an imaging voice. All of that work HAS to be done in NYC these days, as do the individual stream's shows.

Now let's look at the numbers. Sirius ended 2004 with 1.1 million subscribers. That's only the population of Dallas by itself..And they say with Stern aboard they will DOUBLE that by the end of 2005..okay so throw in the population of Philadelphia and you have Sirius' total potential listener base. Not real strong for a National sat feed..TWO major markets..that's it! And for that they are going to pay Stern and his group 500 Million bucks over 5 years? Is that assuming that EVERY subscriber will listen to Howard Stern? How many amputee strippers can America handle? This is like Coors beer used to be. Once everone can get it..it ain't so special..and they will be yawning at this after a year and a half has passed. Nonetheless I am glad for Bubba..Go get that cash while the basket is in front of ya!

But wait..there's more...

Counting multi-reciever discounts etc. at an average of 10 bucks a month per subscriber that's only 25 Million dollars a month. That's around 300 million per year. They give Howard et.al 100 million of that and they only have 200 million dollars left to run the whole operation..200 million yearly to pay all the other people on all the other streams, and the expensive professional sports contracts, and the outside advertising, and the maintenence of THREE geo-stationary satellites, tower space and equipment for terrestrial translators, and electricity, and NYC wages for engineering and production people, and programmers and telephone systems and TWO whole floors at one of the MOST expensive office buildings in Midtown Manhattan!!! All of that financial output for the equivelent of only TWO markets worth of "potential" listeners..and only a fraction of them will be listening. This from a company that keeps "reorganizing" and shelving stock options and adjusting value added profit sharing margins nealry every three months! Sure they will garner more subsribers in the years to follow, but there ARE new sources of entertaiment on the horzon.

There is "free" HD Radio..with each suitably equipped OTA station being able to offer niche streams of thier own (up to three per single station) Did I say free? Well you gotta buy a special radio..AAhh..another "special" radio!? Will we do that? Or will this go the way of Quad Stereo and AM Stereo? And if we do will the new radios be compatable with Sirius/XM or will we need another "special" converter for that? Because soon after that there will be GSM enabled High-Speed Internet stream compatable car radios..will they be compatable with all of that other stuff..including the in-dash DVD, and On-Star? My God I am getting a headache again...

Oh I can't wait to see this next 6 years! And all I wanted to do was play a Dion and the Belmonts record on the air in 1968.

Oh for the love of God, Jeff, if you're going to start bringing facts , backed with experience, logic and statistical data to the table, you're going to drive away most of the posters on this board!

And thank you for doing so.

Re: You are stupid

I believe the statement that follows the references to those two hosts is, "Hannity, while on satradio ...", new sentence differentiating him from the other hosts mentioned.

Also as a mod I'm going to have to step in and ask everyone to stop the name-calling. Thank you.
______________

Mancow is not on satellite radio. As for character assault (or assaut, as you called it), I think you mean slander. People can file frivolous lawsuits against anyone, be they on radio or satellite or wherever; if you're trying to imply that there's special protection on being on the radio vs. satellite as far as slander laws go, I have to disagree. Don't confuse speaking the truth about someone or giving your opinion with slander.

We're building a studio here in Tampa, so no we're not moving to NYC.

Funny, that's not the case for us.

BTLS to Sirius

Uncensored Hot Talk (or even pre-2004 Hot Talk) is out from the AM/FM dial, at least until Fox's case against the FCC for the "Married By America" NAL makes it to the Supreme Court. As it is now, most of the shows left on terrestrial radio have had to neuter themselves to the point of being unlistenable at times. Even Howard Stern faces daily battles with the dump button.

For those who will be joining us over at Sirius, they're in for some really fun, hilarious, compelling shows between what Stern will put on and what we'll have. For people content to the vanilla airwaves of terrestrial radio, that's their choice. The real fun will be going on over at Sirius.
______________
