Steve & Vikki to Join B98.5

The jury is still out on what they will be allowed to do. K & A were a very different morning show when they were in Colorado. Let's wait and hear what happens.

I was told that at yesterday's staff meeting, someone asked about that. The response was, "We didn't hire them to do something they're not good at." So it looks like Steve & Vikki will be allowed to do their show the way they've always done it.

I'm thinking county with Moby in the Morning. Yeah baby.

Moby is syndicated on South 107.1 out of Rome/Rockmart, WNGC 106.1 out of Toccoa/Gainesville, and that station out of Griffin (go to mobyinthemorning.com) . That already covers most of the metro ATL (except intown, which probably doesn't listen to much country anyway).

IMNSHO the last thing ATL needs is ANOTHER country station--at least while Bull, Kicks, and Eagle fight it out with the same playlist. Somebody's going down...

What format changes Cox will make to the station also is unclear. There is no incentive to change, but B98.5 might go more in the hot AC direction (maybe even a full flip to hot AC), even putting in more currents to get the old Star 94 audience. That could leave the door open to another AC (or hot AC).

I suspected all along Steve and Vikki were fired from Star 94 under competive pressures (not only with Q100, but with the now called off sale of the station by Lincoln Financial). They are a good fit with the B98.5 audience, unlike at Star where they were a 25-54 show on an 18-34 station.

We will just have to wait and see what happens.

I seriously doubt that Cox will mess with a good thing format-wise (5+ share), unless someone else horns in on their AC monopoly and takes share. They already have urban AC covered with WALR.

This WILL put more pressure on Star 94 to get ratings, although IMO getting rid of S&V was a good move for them (or a serendipitous turn of events) for the reason you describe. As I said on another thread, Lincoln needs to either get dead serious about growing Star 94 or dump it while they can--no passive ownership allowed. Cumulus is getting serious with Q100. Otherwise all they will be selling down the road is a license and a stick.

And whoever suggested moving K&A to River--great idea! Good talent and a good fit.

Chill out Jabba. I wasn't serious.

It worked for Jordan Gray... she's over with the audience well using another personality name in the same market just a few clicks to the left, to the left. K&A seem like they would be a great fit at 97.1 The River too.

Oh I can hardly wait ... canned Steve & Vikki voicetracking on weekends! (unless S&V have in their contracts that they will not be voicetracking weekends).

Really, in all seriousness Vikki WAS ill. Remember Star had no solution to the resignation UNTIL the station in Indy changed formats and the Mess was available.
If Star is in fact still for sale it could be easily argued that this deal is with a rock solid company who will give them the same support they've given Scott Slade on the AM...and a job for life.
In life you take deals when they come along and this deal just came along very recently. There was no hidden agenda.
Now we have McCoy in the Morning and Kelly McCoy in the afternoon..the McCoy brothers..so anytime somebody writes MCCOY in arbitron the right station gets credit. To cut down on listener confusion maybe the new thing could be to have everybody on each station with the same last name..
We can have Rhubarb Jones on 106, followed by Jim Jones Middays, Joe Jones afternoons, Jack jones nights, and the lovely Jean Jones who didn't make the Jenny Craig tv commercials overnights.

Star could be Morning Mess in AM, Mike Mess in midday, Mo Mess in PM, Bob Mess nights and Big Mess overnight.

The possibilites are endless and no more listener confusion.

You people are such sheep. No doubt she had a blood clot but if time off was going to help her why wait 6 more months to resign???? Leave then and get healthy. They knew they weren't going to be re-signed so it was a good opportunity to exit stage left and save face. I don't blame them but call it what it is. Their demo was aging and they were getting beat on the younger side by Bert. They decided to go after q100 head on instead of maybe tweaking the format and going aftr B98.5. Only time will tell how this somewhat three way race of Q100 on a stronger signal, Star with a weaker morning show and B98.5.

In her reason for leaving she cited the lifestyle of early mornings on her health. I never understood that. You ge your sleep in what does it matter what hour it is. Are blood clots time sensitive. All of sudden 2 months of sleeping in makes her want to return to work?

Good luck to them no doubt. Not my choice in a morning show but I certainly respet their efforts.

You could have Kelly McCoy backselling a song by "Real McCoy" and then promoting an upcoming remote appearance by Steve McCoy.

I think jy knows what he's talking about; I have a feeling he has an inside track. I guess I'm one of those sheep, but she said the clot was supposed to have gotten better and hadn't. She said although the job was in the morning, the obligations that went with it, appearances and so forth, filled every day, and the doctor told her that she needed to rest. Additionally, the AJC had quotes from her husband expressing his concerns. Writing that if it weren't true would have been the ultimate in bad taste. I believe that resigning was her decision.

That said, if Star 94 really wanted to keep S&V, they probably would have told her to take as much time off as she needed; that her job would be waiting for her, even if she was out 6 months. The station probably saw her resignation as an opportunity to solve its aging-demo problem, which they really had to do. And staying with S&V as they got older created problems that could be a challenge for Star. To go younger, Star has taken the risk of possibly alienating its audience, which was used to Steve & Vikki.

Steve & Vikki's move to B98.5 could hurt Star. Despite that, I think Star had to cut the cord; S&V no longer fit the station's vision. S&V should be a perfect fit for B98.5.

Maybe the B98.5 gig will be little less strenuous for Vikki in the personal appearance department than Star? Maybe a little less in the show prep department if Cox and S&V have agreed that it will be a little less talk and more music on the B98.5 version of S&V than Star.

Kiss LA dropped Rick Dees in favor of Ryan Seacrest because of this same demo issue? I'm not sure but maybe one the oldest CHR morning jocks at this point is "Matty In The Morning" at Kiss 108 Boston. Matty has seen the departure of afternoon legend Dale Dorman (who did CHR into his 60s!) at Kiss 108, and of Ed McMahon in midays.

Right CR &&&&&& you never get all of your life back after working those hours for a number of years. It seriously messes
up your sense of timing forever.

Does anyone on this board actually know McCoy or Locke? If so, why don't you ask them to post a reply to all this speculation...my sources tell me they contractually are bound as to what can and can not say in public or benefits will be in jeoprady.Thats what they have hinted to w/Eldridge and Ho. O.K. so pick a user name...tell McCoy/Locke to go to Kinko's and tell us whatzup!! ;)I for one would like to know. Nothiing in this biz surprises me but I'm a sucker for a good story. They probably pass a Kinko's on the way to the bank they are laughing all the way to!! Thanks to the Mess known as Kanov.
