STOCK OUT AT KXNT

Norm in today's Las Vegas Review Journal today says KXNT is dropping it's AM (840).
Anyone know anything about this?

Jerry Gordon, Announcer, the Jack B Show(syndicated)

Also in Norm's column he mentioned that Wayne Allyn Root will be the next host trying out for the afternoon show on KXNT. I never cared for his high pressure sports tout service infomercials, But he is interesting (and intense) when he talks about politics/current events, He ran for Vice President on the Libertarian ticket.

This is what the paper says:
"KXNT Radio is dropping AM 840 as its brand, but "we are still broadcasting the identical programming on both AM and FM," said new program director Andrew Paul. "However, the station is branded as 100.5 FM KXNT, not as 840 KXNT." Tuesday is the one-year anniversary of the simulcasting."

I'm not sure this is the smartest thing to do... as long as KXNT is still on 840, and the competing talk stations are on AM, why pretend it doesn't exist?

AM FM FM AM ...they sure are sending all kinds of mixed messages out there.

How much different is WAR from Stock anyway?

Maybe they should put Dave Ramsey on the AM with infomercials and money talk? or I guess that would be what KNUU is doing?

I suggested on Page 1 (9th post) that Alan Stock should go to KDWN and voila, the news is he is going there from 11-Noon on Monday-Friday. It is welcome news to replace Dennis Miller in this slot. Perhaps, KDWN can combine the broker hours of 9-11 AM into one hour to give Alan more time to develop his following. The legal and doctor tag teams (a different one every day of the week) is hard to try and listen to, since they all have a different style and way of responding to callers. If it were me, I would settle on Doctor Dahlia (spelling?). She is a "spunky" doctor, with her quick witty responses, and sounds like she could be Heidi Harris's sister. She is both entertaining and informative. Comments?

Alan had some interesting comnments Sunday Morning onthe Rabbi show on KDWN. If his side of the story is the whole truth, there were some interesting things being done at KXNT. Since I didn't record it and can't quote it, I'll leave it to your imagination.
On another subject, I was seeking a new primary care physician, since I have been very disatisfied with UMC lately. SInce Dr. D. is close to work I decided to try her. She did more for me in one day than my previous Dr. did in the last year. She is more than just a good radio doc.

KXNT may be a mess but it has a silver lining. AM and PM drive are still live and local while WABC New York is not. There is actually more local programming on KXNT on a weekday than there is on WABC in market #1! ;)

I heard a sweeper on KDWN poking fun at the KXNT morning news block. It said something like "On 720 K-DAWN you won't hear the same tired news over and over all morning long".

That competitive spirit is kind of fun to listen to (in a race to the bottom sort of way). Even if KDWN isn't doing well they must be getting some satisfaction at the struggle the KXNT simulcast has had in it's first year.

Acutally, morning news has always repeated stories all morning long, the audience is constantly turning over(no pun intended.)
WINS New York's slogan "Give us 20 minuties and we'll give you the world"

When Beasley first took over I talked with then PD Charlotte Burke, who referred to the morning news as a Newswheel Format.
So it's odd that KDWN now disavows that philosophy.

Jerry Gordon

I heard a morning person say that people should stay tuned to the attorney program, Jerry Doyle at Noon, Savage at 3 pm and the radio Dr at night. She missed someone, who could that be? Not the 10 to noon guy? Are there bad feelings out there?

Why would KXNT get rid of Stock til they had a new show lined up first?

WAR Wayne Alan Root, seems to spend much of the time talking about himself, his home schooled daughter going to Harvard, his sports Internet business, how he came to Vegas, he didn't see Obama at Columbia, etc. etc. It is like some of the same stories Savage repeats so much.

Is there really anything someone can do to up talk radio ratings in Vegas anyway? Probably not.

Maybe it's time to bring back the "Feminine Forum" that was big in LA at one time. Women would call up and talk about their sex lives and or seek advice.

Yes, talk radio needs a shot of adrenalin.

Jerry Gordon Announcer..The Jack B Show Synidcated (no sex talk)

I just caught my typo (always too late)

The word is "Syndicated".

JG

Don Chamberlin, sex talk in the 70's? Might work in Vegas. Good idea.

Instead of professional, the talk radio stations and people come off kind of petty.

You go into a car dealership, the salespeople don't bash their competition, they explain why their business is the place to buy or have a vehicle serviced.

Why don't people (management) of Vegas area stations act grown-up? We remember the attacks by some of the past managers. Be professional please.

Sorry to disappoint (some of) you, but there's no drama here. Over the last 12 years, Alan Stock and I have gone from being colleagues, to co-hosts, to competitors, and now we're on the same team again. That's radio in a town with very few stations.

Talented people shouldn't be "on the beach". All of us at KDWN welcome him.

Sure, sometimes we bicker like old married people, as only people who know each other's "hot buttons" can, but considering that we spent five years on air sitting two feet apart, I think we did very well, and created a show we were both proud of (well, most days). For the hundredth time, my choosing to leave KXNT had nothing to do with him.

Besides, he'll always have a soft spot for me because I gave him that dog he adores, Daisy. :)

KDWN

Actually, KDWN seems to be doing better than the other talk station, some of the paid for programming is interesting. They had a guy telling people to "de-stress" (by turning off the talk radio and news?) Then they have the outdoor show, the sports shows, the computer show, the rabbi show, some local news, etc.

I guess the RJ tie in over there at KXNT is dead. I heard one of the fired RJ people talking to a fired TV person on the 3-6 pm "who's next?' time slot. Can't they figure out who to hire?

I think the low point was when the managment over at one talk station was calling the other talk station: "racist radio." They even had a promo: "Not racist radio..etc."

@MC as much as you enjoy the specialty shows and infomercials I would guess KDWN get's below a 1 share on the weekends..but at least they are getting paid. I would also guess KXNT does better weekdays than weekends.

JD...

I was being serious a couple of pages ago, dude! I truly do miss hearing your opinions and stuff! Didn't mean to make you think I was being a prick or anything! Hope you're doing well, my friend!

Sorry for spamming the board with non-Stock-related post, y'all!

You know, Kev? I never even thought of that...Miss you too, Brother!
