Stop the presses: WXRV fires yet another PD

All Access reports that Catie Wilber is out at Steve Silberberg's Haverhill House of Horrors. This time, however, the PD position may be eliminated altogether; budget cuts are blamed for the latest move. Music selection is being outsourced to an outside consulting group.

LOL @ "budget cuts"

It's not budget cuts if the owner has been a cheap SOB the entire time. Like, how desperate are people to do this for a living where they just keep taking this crap over and over again?

Wondering if Catie left in tears like the last three female PDs.

Or like John Boehner and Newt Gingrich, both males (sort of).

Wow, and the station is sounding better than ever, go figure. I'm sure this "outside consulting group" will muck that up nice and quick...sad stuff

I've listened more to The River recently than in recent memory...the station sounds good.
I second that.
I'll also add, when I'm looking to hear something different (Other than Mix 104.1, or Magic 106.7), this station is great. Not too hard, not too soft. It's great

I'm sure it will go to a completely safe, AC/AAA hybrid consulted playlist very soon.

If you can't afford a PD or MD, perhaps you should explore another format?

Considering that the consultant has been calling the shots/pulling the strings for a while now I don't think you will hear much of a difference than what is on the air now.

So the station has been "sounding great" lately thanks to a consultant? What a concept! I wonder how many other stations over the years would have been praised by so-called discerning listeners if those listeners had been under the impression that the music director had been calling the shots.

WXRV is losing its way again.. hearing more rock, safer mainstream picks. Franz Ferdinand "Take Me Out" this morning, I thought I had it on 92.9, but I checked: it was 92.5.

I guess they can play whatever they want since they're the only AAA game in town. At least this time the consultant's not loading up the playlist with Springsteen, Petty & Mellencamp every 15 minutes. Now it'll be Jack Johnson instead.

I don't know how you can say WXRV is losing their way again. My wife and I usually listen to WXRV and WUMB for the most part. If anything, we think WXRV sounds better than ever with a lot of "lost" cuts being sprinkled in throughout the day not just on the specialty show "Brunch by the River" (which I might add is a great way to spend Sunday mornings!).

If they stay the course to match their "Independent Radio" slogan, I don't mind that an outside consultant was brought in even though it's a shame that Catie lost her job. We wish her nothing but the best and hopefully she will land on her feet soon.
