That's what nearly killed the radio business fifty years ago, and did manage to kill the careers of some very highly paid air talent. It's not going to be tried again on any station that cares about keeping its license.

Given the new threat to music radio listening from iPods and the like, I think the idea of talent selecting their own music is worth revisiting, but (1) everyone would need to be on the same page, and (2) the talent would have to be truly talented.
I do think music radio needs to get back to its show business roots if it is to compete effectively going forward.
