Strawberry fired from WILD!

The cuts.....or should I say the slashing continues at CC..... (From All Access)

>Due to budgetary cuts, UZETTE SALAZAR has been let go from CLEAR CHANNEL Hot AC KIOI (STAR 101.3)/SAN FRANCISCO. "It has been a >dream job co-hosting with DON BLEU in mornings," she tells ALL ACCESS. "I will miss his humor and leadership."

I wonder if she was treated the same as Strawberry?!?!

She was brought in by Casey Keating, and he's been gone a while. With Casey and then James Baker gone, it was kind of a foregone conclusion.

They just walked him out of the building.....so much for loyalty huh?

And CC continues to cut, cut, cut.

That is really too bad. My favorite days of Wild were when the lineup was Doghouse, Rene Taylor, St. John, Strawberry, and Victor Zaragosa.

I guess business is business, but it REALLY sucks to see talented people get knocked on their asses like that.

I'm sure Strawberry thought he meant more to the station than the station thought. The fact they opened up a website to say they won't go away didn't help.

Just goes to show Michael Martin is a dictator and whatever he says goes. Even St. John who works there gets scolded, but what can he do?

But Wild is no longer personality driven, nor does it have to be in my opinion. They are the only urban station and nothing is cooler to teenagers than wearing baggy pants and rapping...

Maybe Dog House and Strawberry get on another station together and take em down similar to Hot 97...

I see here that Strawberry had the lowest ratings on KYLD for the month of October for any daypart. Do you know who had the highest?..............T-Man did.

But as I predicted he slipped in the northwest because he is overly consumed with The Bay.

All shows have ups and downs. I'm not sure it would be an accurate assumption to say it's because he's "overly consumed" with the bay... That is if his #s really are slipping.

Just my opinion....

;D you knew it was going to happen... these idiots aren't going to be happy until they fire the whole staff and have part timers working every shift. drew & marcus better be ready because cc i'm sure would pick them up for mornings if the price is right. Wild has never sounded worse and it's really breaking the heart of the bay...they are totally disconnected at this point, and as ive said before WILD IS DONE! Nobody Cares, Nobody Listens, and it's going to stay that way until they get a clue and get somebody in charge who knows radio. it's getting more embarassing everyday. Every promotion BOMBS...literally! good luck getting a contract extension jazzy...isn't his contract almost up ???? if he even has one that is...what a JOKE!

Maybe my post was misleading because actually KYLD, as a whole, is trending up nicely over the past number of months. If I'm the PD of that station I'm feeling good about the momentum.

Sorry to muffle the axe you have to grind there "Crusader."

Maybe I am missing the boat, but isn't the morning drive the highest for any station regardless more often than not?

And also, isn't the 6-10 p.m. slot the least coveted, because everybody is at home and how many people listen to the radio at home that aren't registered on this board?

strawberry held down the bay more then any of the other hosts.... he was with wild before lots of people and help make the station what it is today. his show was funny and they didnt give it enough time in the morning to take off ...

and the t-man show aka tom leykis with less personality...whatever...at least they havent let go of any good mixers yet ...

straw will be missed in the bay for sure.

and i'll tell my agent to contact CC about the mornings crusader... i'll let ya know

In older formats, mornings or middays are king. With younger-skewing formats, historically later dayparts have done well...i.e. afternoon drive and evenings. This was particularly true of teen oriented stations. Most likely computer use, iPods, etc. have cut into this later in the day listening among the young. I know several major programming figures that are plenty concerned with this erosion among teens particularly.

Nevermind that. Straw had over a year in mornings and didn't have it. I love the T-man. People I roll with at Cal Bezerk love T-man. The Bay loves it youll see. He gets me excited to go into the biz and be a mornig d.j.
Anyone who listenes for a day thinks he's just like all the rest. Anyone who listens for a month knows different. If you read back I told y'all that his ratings would be big.

I like Straw, and think he did a good job, but agree that T-Man is in a whole different league. Nonetheless, the erosion I mentioned in the earlier post is a bigger problem for young formats long term than the morning shows, overall.

Mike Preston is a smart guy. You think they may bring in Strawberry ??? Maybe the whole show? would be cool to see CC get it stuck to them for once.

if t-man makes you want to get into radio then drive to the golden gate and jump.

Anyone know what they're going to do with Strawberry's time-slot? Maybe they'll bring someone else in or move up the late guy Joe Breezy? he sounds pretty good...

WOWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This sucks!
Too bad for the bay area to lose a great radio personality. I'm sure this was a tough decision for management at Wild. Getting rid of your only strong known radio personality other than St. John. Maybe they felt threaten by him?

I wonder where he will resurface? Hopefully in the bay area. He's talented, so I don't think he will have a problem finding a new gig.......Everyone all the way back to Jo Jo have found some cool gigs, so I guess the problem would be which job offer to accept.

HMMM....JO JO LEFT ON HIS OWN...but yes strawberry will easily be able to get another gig... U GO STRAW!
