Streets 94.5 LMAs WGUN 1010

EJM said:
...it looks like the WGUN calls went down to Valdosta (displacing WGOV)--with 1010 now going by WTZA.

Haven't seen those calls since Channel 62 in New York's Hudson Valley back in the day.

Anyone think the WGOV callsign will end up in Washington?

I will admit I listened ALL DAY or most of it to some incredible memories of my childhood. BUT the bigger question remains.. WHO is going to buy time on a AM radio station? A daytime station at that? Yes, I know they have 78 watts at night.. WHOOP WHOOP, Its still a daytime signal plain and simple.. I do like this format better than the one that was tried before, and better than the lib talk. BUT again.. Can it have a future on AM?

Im sure Steve Hegwood has something up his sleeves. Im no engineer, but I'd bet Old School 1010 would soon be on a FM translator.

Again I will give him credit for the format. He has done a good job with the mix, just a little to much Michael Jackson but otherwise good job. I will listen and AM does not bother me, I grew up on AM.

BTW...Heard "Me and Miss Jones" by Billy Paul today. Love that tune. Would like to hear "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate and maybe some Supremes.

It's sounding great and bringing back a bunch of awesome memories! Thanks, Hegwood!

I was looking at the Google view the other day. It appears there is not a lot of room for the ground system. I am no engineer, so this is just me parroting what I hear others say. I thought the ground system was the most important part of an AM antenna.

STREETZ 94.5 is now streaming on Tune In. OLD SCHOOL 1010 sounds pretty decent and remember KISS and MAJIC plays newer R&B. Funny that "OLD SCHOOL" is the name and format Radio One is now rolling out. Could 1010am also be translated to a FM signal???
I don't think the "Old School" branding is trademarked by Radio One or any other corporation, since any station on the urban ac/oldies circuit can be considered that. KRNB in Dallas called themselves Old School 105.7 in the mid 2000s once, and KMEZ in New Orleans still utilizes the name (Old School 102.9 - later 106.7). Even WRBO in Memphis still calls itself "Soul Classics" even after it went from oldies to ac.

But hopefully Old School Ten-Ten can focus on the R&B and soul oldie titles that WVEE, WALR and WAMJ no longer touch.

BTW...I tried the website to stream at night when 1010 goes to low power and it's crashes windows media player. Other station streams ok. ??

I have seen a lot worse! You are correct in the ground system being very important. How old are the grounding radials? I have always wondered why aluminum was not used in grounding systems. Granted it is not quite as good as copper but it lasts longer, and is a good conductor of electricity. The electric power companies use it, so it most likely is cheaper than copper.

1010's ground system does need some work. Some radials on one side especially. Will someone tell Steve to FIX his website so you can stream. Right now it's useless!! I could not get Tune In Radio to work either. :-\

As of now, Tune In only works on STREETZ 94.5. Have you tried Radio Loyalty's site ?

No I have never used that site. It would be nice to go to his page click Listen Live and windows media player or what ever he uses plays. It should not be a chore to try and listen. I like the station but without his site working correctly it's impossible to listen at night when they are on low power.

Working great on my iTunes, and it's 9:13pm. 8)

For lots of folks (including me) that link/URL does not work. It just causes my computer to want to download a file. That .pls extension is no longer supported in the most recent version of Windows Media Player. It used to be supported. The only way for me to make it play is to open iTunes and copy the URL. Too much of a pain to bother.

If there are several posts about a stations stream not working on some computers, then the problem belongs to the station not using a more user friendly stream.
