P.S.
I'd drop the Beyonce, Keisha, NeYo, and all the other girl tracks.
Add some Ace Hood, Lil Josh, Boss Playa, Plies, Playaz Circle, Hurricane Chris, Soulja Boy, GS Boyz, Drama, J-Money, UGK.. the list can go on and on.

Theres plenty of hot traxx that can identify with how the station is presenting themselves STREET / WE R HIP HOP. But they gotta stick to it. Time to do it right.... dont do what V103 and Hot are doing.

Obviously, you haven't been listening very long. They've been playing more hip-hop than HOT, V and THE BEAT combined. STREETZ 102.9 isn't even a week old so give them time to work things out before you start bashing. The playlist seems to be expanding day by day. I've heard all the new, top, local and even throwback hip-hop joints on STREETZ that others only play during certain timeslots or don't play at all (ex.THE BEAT). Thats what strikes me after hearing Hegwood maybe involved. The music playlist is very up to date and whoever is directing the music knows what they are doing. Those R&B joints you fuss about are played to keep the female listeners tuned in. What station do you know of that claims to be "Hip-Hop" and doesn't play some type of R&B. Too bad the signal is limited, but if Hegwood is running things they'll grow in a matter of time.

I know the satation is not in operation right now, but i still wanna point out some things. "WE R HIP HOP" [Not hip hop and r&b]. Its the same ol, same ol if they play the POP/R&B joints. Period. This was a small station on HD, and they needed to think out of the box. Pop tracks would be a turn off for most who want to hear Rap/Hip Hop.

Shawty, if what u say is true, that a female listener will only listen to the station if it plays the pop/r&b tracks, then why would that type of listener even be tuned in at all.......... when they would have to listen to a hour of "unwanted" music just to hear Beyonce? By puttin in a Beyonce track, it would just simply irritate most of the listeners that WANT to hear Rap on the station. THATS why I said drop the tracks because they do not fit the "mission" of the station WE R HIP HOP.

For example, when Nelly did a song with Tim McGraw, if I was a Nelly fan, would I listen to a hour or two of a country station just so I could hear that Nelly song? NOPE!

I highly doubt installing a few tracks here and there was going to make much of any female listen to the station because if that was the case, why would a female be listening to the station AT ALL to wait and hear a pop track in the FIRST place?

KXHT Memphis was/is a Rap station. They don't play none of that pop/crossover/r&b and have been doing great for years, even beating out a 100KW "Power house" in ratings over a year, forcing a format change.

WHY is everyone so afraid to do a RAP station! Its about time that they DO. There needs to be a line drawn between CHR, Urban AC and Urban stations where the CHR's & focus on the pop, the Urbans focus more and more on RAP/Hip Hop period, and the Urban AC's are R&B and Old school.

18 years ago Chicago had Rap Radio 950AM WJPC and it was STRICTLY RAP/Hip Hop 24-7. And after that it was bought and simulcasted on 106.3 [106 Jamz] and was the best Hip Hop station Chicago ever had (Until it was sold due to regulations).

Rap/Hip Hop formats need to be done again, especially since there is not a shortage of Rap and its been at its highest peak for years and so mainstream... its easier to sell than say 1991 when it was more niche.

In this particular case with V103 and WHTA, and the Beat, 102.9 Needs [or needed] to think out of the box and keep it Crunk/Rap/Hip Hop without R&B in order to make a difference. No need to play copycat with the competition.

There is so much current / former Radio one involvement in this station it is pathetic. John Mathews, who is the current Radio One VP of Engineering built the facility. Steve Hegwood acquired the lease with the Board of Education to get on that tower, and Wayne Brown is the money. Perhaps Alfred Liggins should pay a little more attention to what is going on in the radio division, as opposed to playing with cable TV and syndication.....

I thought CBS owned the tower (WSTR/WSB-FM/WVEE/WABE/WPBA)? If WABE/WPBA owned it, I believe they would be barred from leasing it to commercial entities (which W275BK is now, as well as WSTR/WSB-FM/WVEE).

And if the current VP of engineering of Radio One (based in the Washington, DC area?) is involved in this 102.9 business ...what the hell is going on there to cause a lot of mass moonlighting? Is any such activity also going on in other Radio One markets?

This could be a big problem for Radio One...and possibly their downfall if not handled properly.

The tower is now owned by the Board of Education. In 1989 when the FCC mandated that FM stations had to be at 1,000 feet or higher to maintain their full class C status, the owners of WVEE approached the Board of Education. The land was a city park and pool at the time. The deal was that WVEE would build the facility and own it for 20 years. Then ownership would revert to the Board of Education.

The commercial stations will remain there. The FCC is not going to make them move off, and the Board of Education gets money from rent.

WABE, by the way, is on the second tower, which was built for WPBA-DT.
