Strictly Rhythm is back

So what does this mean for the possibility of more dance at CHR and Rhythmic stations. Strictly rhythm had alot of Radio Dance hits back in the 90s. By the way, they just signed Groove Armada.... Im keeping my fingers crossed hoping they do some pushing of their singles to radio, I guess we will find out soon enough.

i'm afraid it means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING,my friend...

Not sure what future releases for Strictly hold but the music that they've put out so far, since the resurrection, isn't geared for CHR at all. They are strong club tracks but not pop radio smashes. Of course given the labels track record that could change at any point.

Um they have been back for a while now. What rock have you been living under?

I pay very little attention to labels when doing downloads. It was BPM that said today that they had just recently been brought back, so maybe BPM was actually under a rock, I dunno. They played a new Groove Armanda track today, but I wasnt impressed with it and dont see it going anywhere.

Strictly I have always consider a club targeted label, they had some EXCELLENT house classic's (I amlistening to an old Edge factor from '95 right now that had Monet's "We can make it"... NICE!) the only real radio/chart topper I remember them pushing was George Acosta's "Set U Free"

Planet Soul is what I was thinking of when I think of Strictly Rhythm. We had Planet Soul in gold rotation at the CHR I was programing in Illinois. 92.1 THE PARTY....

What??? No Rod remix? I thought that was all you could play. ;D :p

Only if the were good 2007 remixes:)

according to all the dance industry EXPERTS out there;
which is why dance in america is lounging in the cesspool it's been relegated to for the past few years

You're right having the once largest global dance label back doesn't mean anything. Couldn't mean there is a chance the format could live longer, couldn't mean that when one of the labels that started it all in 1989 with the same crew could succeed and all the labels benefit. Couldn't mean strength in numbers. Nah what were they thinking.

VERY Well said, Im glad someone shares my enthusiasum. If they sign some radio friendly tracks and market them to the mainstream, They have the money to do so, we might just see some Dance back on CHR and Rhythmic stations, maybe even some of the Rhythmic ACs. :p

While I do believe it is still possible, Robbins, Ultra most recently, I don't think just radio should be the only focus of this format. There are many other levels of of direct consumer contact. The idea is to get records sold one way or another. If it means it gets in a movie on a commercial on the air or just at the club level. Success will be defined by those crazy enough to stick around and have the ability to keep trying.

What experts have you talked to? Higher State did very well. Deepface, The Curre and The Cause, Todd Terry all did well. Strictly has done a very good job in its return. Im excited about their future.
